    Chuck,

For someone so turned off by this thread, why keep reading it and responding? If you have a problem, don't participate!

My caption would read: 'Laura Bush gives a warm reception to the HEAD of State.'

Wow! Now the law matters??

I am sure none of you ever wanted to party and have a good time when you were 18, right? I guess all of you who criticize the Bush daughters must spend every day battling the guilt you feel for breaking the law when you were underaged, right? I suppose you are doing the world a favor for attacking a couple of college girls in a public forum, even though they did not ask to be the focus of a mean spirited liberal press?

Anyway, back in the real world, Chelsea was an adult at the end of her father's term, and everybody respected her privacy. The press did not follow her to parties or write about her boyfriends. That is a standard that should be followed today.

I don't know what a "Rainey troll is", but I am aware of the term "troll". I am only suggesting that the First Lady be given a little respect here.

Whoever wants to act like a childish bore, and publically attack UNELECTED civilians like our First Lady and her daughters, you certainly are within your rights. My only point here is that you should be equally ready to accept criticism for you embarassing behavior.

Hey Chuck, I just wanted to interrupt this thread to welcome you to the BBS, and say that you have the coolest handle here :) I love my Chucks!

I think you bring up some good points. However, I'd rather not get into this debate -- some of us have to work :)

When the ole Lady gave a speech at the RNC, I'd say that puts her front and center in the political arena. Chucky, I am sooooo sure you wanted the media to avoid Hillary's personal life and stop the ridicule before she ever ran for public office. Oh, I know, it is different, Hillary had a political side to her even before she ran for office and Laura just gave a speech as a wife.

I do feel sorry for the Bush girls however and do not condone the media's efforts--but that is the negative side of being a celebrity, not being a democratic, republican, green or yellow one. If Chelsee had done something as embarssing she would have had it plastered on the Star and like too. At least however the Democrat politicans more or less haven't been involved in the Bush daughters issues. Again though Chucky, I am sure you do not condone it when republican politicans went after other family members of elected officials for the better part of the past decade.

Lighten up, as the rest of us have learned through the 90s

I am not a Republican, and you have no idea how I feel or felt about Hillary Clinton, so your post to me does not really make any sense. If you had read my previous posts (which you obviously did not), you would have seen that I respected the approach that the press took towards Hillary and Chelsea.

I only suggested that the First Lady of the United States should be treated with respect, and all I have received is vitriol and false accusations in return.:(

the local media was talking non-stop about Chelsea's boyfriend just cuz he was from The Woodlands. National and international media were all over it too. They even reported on their breakup and said Chelsea went to Stanford's Health Center for stress-related symptoms shortly afterward.

My mistake if I misread your views about Hillary Clinton  I accept you like her and thought she was the unfair target of elected Republican officials actions in addition to the press.

Again my mistake, I guess I got the wrong impression from your statement below posted before I decided to chime in on this thread:

come off it, chuck. you have obvious republican leanings. maybe you don't consider yourself a republican, but you seem to equate "liberal" with "democrat," and your ideas are way conservative, so i'll just connect the dots...

btw, if you think the average democrat has a "liberal mindset," then your knowledge of politics begins and ends with the corporate media, which
    a) i would not consider liberal, and
    b) you get your information from, even though you consider it liberal, which you are not?

sorry, chuck, i just hate it when people get up on a high horse about morality. that tsk-tsk sh*t is tired.

Actually Hillary was in the original photo...she can be found under the table where Laura is sitting.

And RM95, that was pretty funny.

Keep your head up, Chuck. Democrats do no wrong on this board.

    oeilpere, je sais.. je sais.

What's the problem again w/ this joke? There's a bit of sexual innuendo involving the first lady... okayyyyyy.... I'd at least entertain a call of sexism, I might or might not agree w/ it, but I would at least hear it out.

Am I being unfair? Are bjs on the same level as the cruel jokes that Rush put out about Chelsea? Were those jokes bad because Chelsea was the president's daughter? No. They were in poor taste b/c she was a little girl. Most jokes about Hillary insinuated that women shouldn't be strong or aggressive. Were they in bad taste b/c she was the first lady? No. They were in bad taste b/c they suggested the proper place for a woman was in the kitchen like a nice obedient female.

BTW, I don't mean to suggest that I don't laugh at jokes of poor taste.

I also disagree that someone is only a target when they make themselves a public figure. Perhaps we should be practical and expect that public figures would be the butt of jokes at a higher incidence...

but a photo w/ a bit of sexual innuendo is a photo w/ a bit of sexual innuendo. Ha Ha. Har Har. Comedy. He He. Comedy is cruel and sometimes irreverent. Maybe you didn't get it chuck... see, her head is near President Fox's crotch. See? Ha Ha. Comedy. Ho Ho.

And for the more 'objective' ilk, everything ends up being a political issue. :D :p

What is wrong with you people. You see EVERYTHING in terms of Clinton vs. Republicans. Nobody has said ONE THING about Hillary or Chelsea except that the press treated them correctly. I only suggested that the First Lady deserves some respect. I am frankly shocked that my request has become so controversial.

What a laugher!! Some guy puts me on ignore because of a call for chivalry. I have seen it all now.

You misunderstood my post... try again. BTW, I noticed that in most of your posts in this thread you dismissed left wing politics b/c of this issue. Who sees things in a political light?

And I disagreed w/ you... for reasons having nothing to do w/ politics. I think that your chivalry is misapplied though. Laura was married to George during the boozer/cocaine years... I doubt she needs your patronizing chivalry.

I don't get the ignores either... but I digress.
