Actually America is what Democrats are trying to make America like. It seems that Republicans(at least those who support Bush's Policies) want The U.S. to be a land where torture by the govt. is A-OK. The Values of one particular religion are mandated into law, and anyone who disagrees should move to another country.

Those of us who are told to move want a land where torture is not acceptable, we even frown on govts. that use it. We want a land where people are held accountable for their actions, and mistakes. We believe in a press that holds members of govt. accountable, and isn't on the payroll. We believe in country where citizens who hold a different opinion than the majority are free to express that opinion, and not called unpatriotic or unAmerican.

Those used to be things generally considered American but now seems to get a person asked to leave by the party in charge.

You have a very distorted view of Republicans. Most, if not all, of us are against turning America into a torturing police state. We fully support freedom of speech, with very limited restrictions for safety purposes.

Also, I am not asking you to leave. I am merely pointing out that the list of things that you want America to become already exists somewhere, and instead of fighting tooth and nail to try to change this country, you might be happier in that one. If Canada were more like my ideal country than America, I would certainly consider a move.

The quote is accurate as applies to what many Bush supporters on this BBS alone. I'm not saying all Republicans feel that way, or that it is even a GOP pillar for their beliefs.

But it does happen, and not all that infrequently.

It also seems to be in line with the philosophy at the top of the ticket. When Bush only lets agreeable supporters at his political rallys, holds very few press conferences, and even the ones he does hold are planted with faux reporters using fake names, who are blind supporters of the president's policy, it isn't out of line.

Further than that Rumsfeld, and others have tried to claim that anyone who speaks against the war in Iraq is helping the enemy, and not supporting our troops.

I don't know if it is worse that our leaders are saying these things, or that others fall in line when they do. It is also discouraging when other GOP'ers who don't agree with those sentiments seem to have blinders on as to whether party in charge is actually engaged in those kinds of tactics.
