Things are simple...in the garden. You have to take out the weeds, which are bad, and preserve the flowers, which are good.
Here's an interesting question for you, basso. To me anyway. Maybe not to you since I guess you disdain book learnin. But riddle me this: Is George W. Bush smarter than you are? Is Kerry? Is Clinton? Is GHWB?
MacBeth: You know we're friends, but you gotta fix your sig. "Nineteen," not "Ninteen." "Poker," not "pocker." I know these are only typos, but that "ninteen's" grated too long for me to abide "pocker."
BTW, I agree. There are not all that many regular posters in this forum whose intelligence I would confidently rate lower than Bush's, including many of his supporters....yes, Gidget included.
I can think of two who I am confident are dumber or as dumb. I won't name them. Thanks, seriously, for editing the signature. Your typos are somewhat charming, but that 'Ninteen' thing's been on every single one of your posts for months. I am clearly an elitist (Look, Poofie! New sig!), but that stuff's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
well, there's emotional intelligence, and there i'd say W is definitely smarter. Mr. Bill and i are probably about on a par on that scale, but i'll give him the edge elsewhere. with kerry it's really hard to tell, since i'm honestly not sure what he's saying half the time. he can certainly obfuscate with the best of them though. GHWB? pretty smart guy by most any measure, but there's that articlulateness thing...
“The greatest thing you'll ever learn is to love and be loved in return.” I knew listening to jazz made me smarter!
" I ain't no guru of love...people saying I'm the guru of love...I'm the guru of Barry White." -Barry White
That link takes me to a book! You elitist! And it sounds like it was written by Dr. Phil! You pansy! Let me make it easier for you to answer and harder for you to dodge: Of the presidents I listed, compare yourself smarts-wise with regard to the economy, health care, education issues, foreign policy, the environment, etc. I maintain that most of us here would lose that comparison to any one of those past presidents (and Kerry) on every single issue and win it against Bush on every single one too.
it's not that i think you're mis-underestimating W here, although i think you are, but you're grossly overestimating the collective intelligence of the BBS. we're skilled at snarkly comebacks, and some of us know a thing or two about how to google a topic, but all of us would be way out of our depth discussing any substantive issue of policy with any of the presidents you mention, or Ford for that matter.
basso: I agree with you on the collective intelligence of the BBS and the fact that we'd all be out of our depth discussing any of these issues with any of the ones mentioned (including Ford), except Bush. Couldn't disagree more about Bush. Most anyone here could kick his ass in an extemporaneous debate on virtually any of those issues.
I think you are under-estimating. As is grossly apparent, I write pretty much everything here off the cuff, and while I assume that others spend a little more time correcting typos, I doubt most other posters are any different in terms of meditation. I don't think people would bother to google to repond to something of substance, as it would seem to be both a difficult thing to do about serious concepts or issues, and putting way too much effort into a discussion meant to represent your current positions.
Agreed, MacBeth. I write everything I post here off the top of my head. Not saying anything I post is particularly impressive, but I'd just love to see Bush try that.
