Really? Do you feel the same way about statues of people like Abraham Lincoln or Sam Houston? I'm curious. I never really understood the idolatry thing. I have never once seen a statue and felt compelled to pray to it or worship it in any way. It's simply a monument to commemorate people who achieved great things.
Someone should put a can labeled "Tips" in front of the statue since it's going to be displayed in the concourse, help a struggling brutha out. (irony for No Tippin' Pippen)
A big difference here is that the guys you mention are dead. The statues were built as a remembrance for the great things they did for the country. Pippen is still very much alive. The statue was not built as a remembrance; it was built to show how great he is. It just seems wrong to me.
Doesn't doing great things make you great? The whole idea that you can't appreciate someone until they are dead is also a bit silly to me. I highly doubt Pippen asked for that bust. The Bulls franchise just appreciated all the things he did for the team and wanted to honor him with it. It's in the stadium not in the middle of downtown Chicago.
