I remember watching Asik play one day. He's not bad and he tries to dunk the ball even if he has no chance in making it. I think trading Lee for Asik would be a bad deal on the Rockets. I know we need a Center but that does not mean we give up a good quality player for a player just to fill a position. I much rather the Rockets be a little more patience and try to package a deal for a good quality Center like Nene. That would make more sense than just trying to go for a fast band aid and trading a good quality player in Lee for a Center just to fill the void temporary.
Well, thats that then....Seems like Houston overvalues Lee, and Chicago Asik....at the end of the day, I think it could still happen just because of obvious need issues of both teams.
I'd also rather keep CLee. Good NBA players are not a dime a dozen. We can pick up a C in the draft or free agency (Perkins). Patience is a virtue. Of course, if we can ship some expirings for a serviceable C, that's cool. BTW, anyone know how Ming Yao is doing?
I agree, I still remember last year when Walsh kept saying the swap, 2012 pick and JHill were just TO MUCH to part with but come the deadline not only did we get all three but he also helped us get Martin.
That goes for almost every one in the NBA. The NBA is full of ordinary players. Only few are highly talented and special. Thats the thing, you cant just expect everyone to be special with a very high upside. Thats why superstars are very hard to come by. Not every team have the luxury of having one. Its not like we can just give up our ordinary players and somehow magically we get a special star talent player in return. It don't work that way. Though not a star player, Lowry is a tough player that brings it every night. We all want our PGs to be like CP3, Rose, Westbrook etc but not everyone can be like those guys. You at least have to appreciate that Lowry, though not a top tier PG, will not back down from anyone and plays with so much passion and heart. I mean, we traded Rafer Alston for him so thats a huge upgrade. Its not like we traded a superstar for Lowry hoping he would one day become one. I think Lowry is fine, we don't really need an elite PG. He can play with basically anyone. Pair a superstar up with Lowry and they will play great together. Right now, Lowry is putting up career numbers and right now, hes better than half the PGs in the league with his relentless play. C. LEe is the same way. He isn't an elite SG but you have to really think about it, we just traded Ariza for him and he's a much better upgrade from Ariza. We just traded a decent role player for a better role player. You can't expect the Rockets trading Ariza and somehow getting a star player in return. With Lowry and Lee, the Rockets got the better part of it because we gave up Ariza and his grueling contract, and Skip. Lee and Lowry is an upgrade over Ariza and Alston. In order to have special young players with incredible high upside, you have to give up one too. In this case, Rafer and Ariza both doesn't have a high upside and both aren't special either.
It just makes too much sense to not happen. We don't really need Lee. And once Deng comes back, with Boozer, Gibson etc, Asik still provides defense, but at what cost? Its a solid young role player for another. This deal gets done imo unless the Bulls or the Rockets find other trade partners for their needs...
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/36897/nba-with-ric-bucher Now does Asik have greater value then Taj Gibson? I say NO, and thus deal will get done, eventually.
Yes, it seems that Chicago would need to get Joakim Noah back on the floor, obviously, before they make such a deal. They can tread water pretty well until then. They also get some time to kick Asik in the butt and get him to (they hope) play well enough where the Rockets (or another team, who knows) won't insist on that draft pick in a trade. Which might be a tough sell.
ESPN Insider: The Bulls like Lee, but according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, they're not willing to give up Asik. Johnson writes: "Coach Tom Thibodeau praised Asik after the game (Wednesday), and management has given no indications it plans to trade him. Although the Bulls have engaged in exploratory talks to upgrade at shooting guard, an Asik-for-Lee swap isn't likely to happen." ---- The Houston Chronicle reported the Bulls have inquired about the availability of Courtney Lee, potentially for Omer Asik, but were turned down by the Rockets. Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD confirms that Chicago is targeting Lee: "... the Rockets and Bulls have discussed a trade involving Lee. The Bulls have been scouting Lee in recent weeks." The Bulls, even though they have Keith Bogans, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer, have been looking to upgrade the shooting guard position for most of the season.
