I would assume the Bulls would value Lee more than Brooks at the moment due to several factors but two of those would be- 1. Starting lineup upgrade and complement to Rose 2. Contract -Lee has another year with another team option next year I believe on his rookie contract and Brooks will be due for an upgrade in salary this season that the Bulls have no idea what it will be.
This is stupid regardless if asik is a better player than lee for us or not. Asik is not the answer for us in the middle. Lee has so much upside..id be willing to move martin... Id rather have moved martin for gortat and had lee and gortat than martin and asik...we could have had 2 2-way players instead we have 2 1 way players....YAY Asik is not the answer in the middle..package hill and budiger or hill and lee for gorat and throw a draft pick in if you have to
I don't know why the Bulls would be desperate in order to make that trade. Sounds like a fair trade that helps both teams to me. They get their defensive combo guard that can roll with Rose or run the point when Rose takes a breather. I think Lee would look really good in a Bulls uniform and really help them make a deep run in the playoffs. With Noah coming back Taj Gibson is going to be the odd man out. Kinda like how T-Will is with us right now. I don't think Jordan Hill will ever get "it" and be the player that we all hope he can become. I think we should ship him while his trade value and upside is still there. The Bobcats 1st round pick sounds great and if we need to sweeten the deal a little bit I'd throw in one of our later picks.
I like Taj Gibson a LOT more than Jordan Hill. At least Gibson has proven he can score when given the starting job.
Lee is a quality player and shouldn't be dealt simply because he gets few minutes backing up a guy that's above-and-beyond our best player. Orlando was in a similar situation with Gortat. Instead of losing him for nothing, they were forced to "overpay" him with the idea that he would be moved at some point. $6-7M for a backup that rarely plays is, indeed, too pricey. Conversely, Lee is locked in at $1-2M with a qualifying offer for the third. Definitely not the same situation. And I hate to say it but Kevin Martin isn't exactly the most durable player in the league. Having a quality backup is essential. Bottom line: it's going to take more than Asik to get a deal like this done. Our desperate need for a quality five goes without saying, but this kid is nothing short of a project. He's maybe a half step better than Thabeet in the 'project' category. He's not the immediate help we need so if Chicago really wants a player like Lee they're going to have to pony up.
I think this is why Adelman said that Brooks wasn't going anywhere because he's insurance for a potential *knocks on wood* Martin injury. Brooks has proven he can score without Martin in the lineup and can serve as the scorer if/when Martin goes down. Thus, making Lee expendable. As much as I favor Lee over Brooks, I think this is along the Rockets' line of thinking.
I don't know why the Rockets would trade Lee for Asik straight up. The Bulls would have to sweeten the pot. If we just want a raw tall dude who can block shots, we already have Jordan Hill. What we need is a real defender and rebounder, not just a shot blocker. If what we get is not significantly better than the big men we currently have, then it's dumb to give up assets for that. This is not a time for tweaking lateral moves. This is a time for a big upgrade or bust.
Agree that Taj would still get around the same amount of minutes off the bench. Kurt Thomas is likely to go back to situational defender minutes. Something he is most likely ok with on a contending team. However, that doesn't mean that the Bulls dont consider Taj a valuable trade piece to fill other needs on their team. They probably just place a value that is too high for the Rockets to give up just Jordan Hill. The deal would most likely stay more simple around Asik + 1st round pick for Courtney Lee. Any deal involving Taj would most likely warrant a third team to give the Bulls back a better asset.
I agree with this - Asik has impressed me when I have seen him this year too. I think my first response was, "Who in the hell is this hustling, shot blocking white kid? That's not Kyle Korver!". Nice young prospect but the Bulls could contend this year with a starting quality SG who can shoot and Lee is probably THE best fit for them - smart defensive player who can hit open shots. I would LOVE to have Taj Gibson and would trade Lee for him in a heartbeat. Here is what I would offer if I were Morey: Taj Gibson for Courtney Lee Asik+Gibson for Lee+Hill Asik + late first rounder for Terrance Williams
I do watch the Bulls quite a bit and I can tell you that Asik is a significant upgrade for the Center postion over Jordan Hill. He isnt an all star center but he will a solid rotation center in the future. Asik still makes plenty of mistakes but he makes up for it in hussle, effort, and focus mentally. Something that Jordan has shown to be the major issues. Plus, Asik guards the Center position much better and could play the position full time in the future, as Jordan just does not have the lower body strength to hold the post against stronger opponents.
IDK much about Omar Asik, but I hope that if he's someone who we'd trade Lee for, then he better have some damn good value to our team. I'd hate to see Lee go, as I really do indeed drastically prefer him over Ariza, but if he can get us some quality, then why the hell not?
Stedd, I hope that's not what they're thinking. Viewing AB as the backup to Martin in case of the "i" word would be an act of stupidity. Lee backing up Martin, on the other hand, makes a hell of a lot of sense and, frankly, I wish Lee was getting a lot of AB's minutes. I agree with baller4life315 that if the Bulls really want Lee, they're going to have to pony up more than Asik.
Talking to a couple bulls fans on another board (Boxden's sports board), they really do NOT want to lose Asik.
He would fit well into our system - seems like a blue collar dirty work type guy with decent basketball IQ. Not the flashiest player, but solid. Is a little thin/weak for the Center spot, but he makes up for it with length and staying between his man and the basket pretty well although he still get's outmuscled on the boards. He's not a scorer but he is better than Chuck Hayes. In today's climate(relatively few good Centers), he has potential to be a top 8 guy at his position but he seems to still be a little raw - maybe still in the bottom half of Centers if he were to start today for Houston.
I doubt that. If anything, the "We're keeping Brooks" reports the Rockets are issuing are merely a smokescreen to keep his trade value on life support.
