And that's where I'm on the fence about whether to retool or rebuild. From everything I read, Morey wants to make a big splash. IMO, you don't make those type of trades unless you're planning to making the playoffs. I don't care who they bring in, there's no guarantee they will make the playoffs this year because this team isn't playing at the level it did last year. 42-40 was pretty awesome for a team that had no superstar and Adelman did a hell of a job last year. It's hard to tell what direction this team is going to take especially when there's a lot of GM's that are not as aggressive as Morey. Morey has to find other teams that want to tango. I trust Morey but it's time for them to make a choice on what direction this team is going to take. I think having all these "assets" has brought on some of the issues we've seen this year. To many players and not enough minutes to go around. This ship is sinking fast and I hope by the trading deadline, we'll get a clear picture on where this team is going.
I think this is a fair trade. Look, what this team really needs is to load up with draft picks anyways. Mix in young prospects with a couple vets like Chuck Hayes and allow our prospects to grow. -On a seperate note I think its safe to trade some of the young players we have that you sort of "are who they are." Mostly referring to Chase Budinger, Courtney Lee, Jordan Hill. These guys are not stars in this league but are really really good role players. I would like to keep Chase if he could play the 2 guard positon more but thats just not going to happen with Martin on our team. -As far as Asik goes I think he can really help on the defensive end and would play well next to Chuck Hayes. Offense is really the main concern here as how he would fit into Adelman's system. If he can hit the open jump shot and develop a hook then we have something to work with. -The first round pick though is what could turn really be the main asset here for the future.
No offense guys(no pun intended), but it's OMER Asik. And in case you're wondering how to pronounce it, we're still not 100% sure either lol. The last announcement was O-mare(rhyming with bear) Ah-sheek. I don't think this particular trade is going to go down, but my gut feeling is Lee will be a Bull. As for Asik's game, he's all dunks right now on offense. He looks like he wants to be/develop into an adequate low-post scorer in time, but he's still too raw and inconsistent to be anything more than a dunker right now. For most of this season he's had a lot of trouble of going up strong around the basket, often leading to trips to the free throw line or just being blocked. He's not a good free throw shooter, but I believe in Turkey he was much worse(I think there's a youtube video of the announcers laughing and the crowd cheering when he made 1 free throw). Supposedly his free throw shooting looks good in warmups, and the few times I have gone early to games I have seen him there practicing on free throws and he did look better. Anyway, he's a pretty good shot-blocker, nothing special but the Rox could definitely use his shot-blocking. His defense is a little inconsistent, there's been a few games where he's moved his feet really well and drawn excellent charges. But then he disappears for a few games. Maybe the stats say otherwise, but it seems like he fouls a little too much. His rebounding is decent, in his last 2 games though he's really stepped and made key offensive rebounds. Overall, I'd expect him to at least be an average backup C next season with the chance of being starting-caliber if he works on the low-post game more and adds some muscle.
I think that makes alot of sense.....or a first round pick + Asik, even though it will be a late first round pick its still a 1rst rounder! IT IS WRITTEN.
Lee hasn't performed like I had hoped. The Bulls are looking for someone to replace Bogans in their starting lineup, and they really like Lee. I would like a trade in which we acquire some quality front-court depth in exchange for him.
Zach Lowe had tweeted that Omer Asik-Taj Gibson is a great front court combo defensively. thats all i know about Asik. and you also have to consider the Thibs influence. I am surely Lee would be happy to play for a winning team with a bright future instead of sucking for consecutive years. but I like Lee's game A LOT and I want him to stay
Do you think he is getting the minutes he deserves? I still think he would do well with us if he is given more PT. but that is just my hunch.
Which is why Thibodeaux wants him. Some of you people are overlooking that in your dumping on Lee. Seems as if the Bulls have initiated this inquiry... and they are better than us at this point.
First of all, he hasn't traded for Asik. And if he did he'd probably ask for more, say, the Charlotte draft pick. Second, if it weren't for some guy called, oh, hmn, what's his name, oh yeah! Kevin Martin, then you'd see much more of Courtney Lee and wouldn't talk **** about him. Third (this should have been first, to be honest), other than his defense, Trevor Ariza wasn't all that great. Unless you're Trevor. Or someone in his entourage?
how about Lee and Hayes for Asik and Gibson and a 2nd round pick? We get young and Taj is a a fantastic shot blocker and rebounder. Bulls get they're SG and still have defense with chuck.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Do not trade Courtney, that would be a huge mistake. We don't need asscheek, we need a REAL center.
Asik looks decent by the numbers, but of course he's had sporadic playing time and he fouls A TON. He's tall, and it seems he can block shots and he can rebound. He's got pretty good mobility guarding pick and rolls. There is some promise there. Moreover, David Thorpe (who happens to be Courtney Lee's skills coach int he summer) named him his best rookie defender at the midseason point (which isn't saying a whole lot, but still it is something). http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=thorpe_david&page=Rookies-110126 [rquoter] Best Defender: Omer Asik, Bulls Part of the reason why Asik gets the nod is the lack of good defense being played overall by this class. But he's deserving as well, thanks to his attentiveness to scouting reports and his willingness to move his feet and contest every shot. He does jump a bit too much for the shot block, costing him valuable rebounding position, but for the most part he's an excellent pick-and-roll defender and a tough guy to score on inside.[/rquoter]
As much as I think Chuck does not belong in any starting lineup in the league and is very overrated on this BBS, I do value his intangibles and would not want to give him up in any lateral move type of deal.
Thanks. Looks promising. and he is 7 feet. I am not sure if thibs would be happy if this guy gets traded, considering his potential. But I really don't want C.Lee to be traded. Martin is injury prone and T-Will is an enigma. The Chron article that was posted this morning said that DM was "under pressure" to do something. I know that falls into the "no **** sherlock" category, but I hope he doesnt succumb under too much pressure.
I am not sure if Taj is as good as Hayes. but I am pretty sure Thibs will try to acquire Hayes next year.
