    I think maybe the WHOLE I-10 corridor [LA - Miami]

    Maybe something to cut through Texas from El Paso to Austin to Houston .

    Not having looked into this or researched it much : For those of you jumping on this high-speed train bandwagon, how is it better than a plane, which goes faster? Wouldn't the tickets be a lot more expensive? And I'm guessing the trains carry fewer passengers?

    They seem like neat toys, but I don't get the "useful" appeal yet.

    Yay, California gets a cut of it. Now instead of 25 years away, it will be 24.5


    Though "Florida canceled plans for high-speed train service " could be a sign of the rail's overall viability in the US ... (will there be "anti-train" lobbyists for the airlines springing up as it goes?)

    No it is not viable.

    the longest currently operational high speed line in China is 40 miles shorter than Austin to Houston.

    The longest planned, to open in 2014 is 25 miles longer than Austin to Houston, but it connects two cities with a combined population of 42 million.

    Austin has a population of 800K.
