The main point is that no one solution is the answer to our problems, but steps like bettering our mass transit system could help. Flying is extremely detrimental to the environment and expensive. If there were a high-speed train alternative that wasn't made of train cars covered in trash, graffiti and urine, people would probably use it between cities in nearby regions.

That could help quite a bit. In addition to other solutions we could have a major positive impact on the planet. Unfortunately, we would need some major corporation and its lobbyists to get this ball rolling. To help sell it, they could sell the names of the different lines and the individual cars to companies for extra profit. Maybe even show ad-heavy entertainment to the passengers.

Am I the only one that would be scared to go on that train?

And it's not because it goes 300 mph...

I go back to China quite often. The public transportation is awesome, I'd still keep a car in China if you can just because when it's 3 in the morning and you need to go somewhere but 90% of the time I wish I can have public transportation options here.

Disagree- we don't have bullet trains because the airlines squash them with lobby groups.

Am I the only person who would be afraid to get on a Chinese-made train that goes 300mph?

    They're made in Germany, IIRC.

How long before this train has a catastrophic derailment and we start using it as a meme?

I wish there was something like this say between houston and dallas/austin that would cut car travel time in half.

bullet trains are not like other trains because they require extremely meticulous track maintenance.

I was not saying they are not safer, i was saying making them as safe as regular trains costs a ton of money and it is based on per miles of track.

I would love a train connecting Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. 100 MPH would work.

I would love any cost effective trains. they can be slow but have a cafe and wifi. People spend tons of time in starbucks anyways, so go slow and have luxury. Way cheaper.

I don't really care about San Antonio, but a triangle network connecting Austin Houston and Dallas would get so much business!!!!

Like ten bucks one way and you get there in an hour. Sigh, keep dreaming

No doubt. You would basically having people
living in one city and could commute into the others

I think the money made would be outstanding

Typical high speed rail price would be over 100 dollars and would take about an hour and a half.
