With curry if his shot is not falling he can drive for layups Jabari struggles beating his man off the dribble to drive for easy layups and struggles around the rim to. Only weakness i can think of for chet was his weight, Paolo has two weakness bad def(that can improve with better players around him and effort, and he is not an elite 3 point shooter) both Chet's and Paolo's weaknesses are easier to fix then Jabari's who can't really dribble/beat his man off the dribble, and he is bad at finishing around the rim... Jabari is the true test of how good the rockets training staff is because Jabari has the hardest things to work on, and if he is able to improve on both of them he can hands down be one of the best players come playoff time.
Chet also disappeared in several games and wasn’t really the focal point of the offense. True, he has a more complete game, but he will struggle a lot more with getting his own shot compared to Paolo. And with Paolo the question remains, if he will be an efficient scorer and if he will be ready to try on defense. And I am not so sure if being able to drive by your opponent and finishing through traffic are the hardest skills to learn - he will only need to drive by, when the defender overcommits to his 3pt shot - so that shouldn’t be too hard. And he is tall, strong and a great shooter, indon. think this will turn into a huge strength but he should be serviceable close to the rim. most of the time early on he will be camped out at the 3pt line or setting screens. And that’s what I am most interested in: how good is he at setting screens and how good is he as a roll man (we already know he should be great as a pick n pop man).
Your going to be surprised at how well Eason does this year. Particularly on the defensive end. Rebounding should also be upgraded with these picks.
And i hope so but he has the most to work on over the other two guys and the hardest skill set to add to his game. i want to be proven wrong.
I wouldn’t say shot blocking is a strength of his, but he is 6’10 with a 7’1 wingspan Robert Horry didn’t have his talent level
Any info on character, work ethic, motivation etc? He has great shooting, length, and does not look terribly bad in anything. There is no reason for him not be great if he works his ass off.
I actually was looking forward to Paulo because he genuinely sounded like he wanted to be here. Once I realized Jabari would be the choice I was shocked looking forward to the pick, once I saw his reaction to being picked by Houston it just seemed odd. He seemed like he wanted Orlando, and then referring to Rafa as "Houston's GM" instead of by his name made me think he didnt even know the guys name even. Not really a good look, not super pumped to have him here.
Who cares if Smith can't dribble? We literally have green and kpj to dribble the ball as much as they want. Smith could b a defensive anchor with spot shooting. I do not expect him to drive the offense. All the man has to do is do what wood wouldn't do and that's defense. On offense he just has to make his shots. Hopefully kpj gets better at setting shots for his teammates, if not sengun will do it.
