If you watch him at Auburn he mostly played at the outside and usually was never played in the paint. that was a BIG concern watching him playing this season. He is a excellent defender on the outside. I love the pick he is not a ALPHA player like Paolo but he can be a 2nd star if he works on his handles and play making. Anyway, I can see him at a 3 and not lose a step
This dichotomy on an nba player you’re describing is why many of us had him at 3 or 4 on our boards and not 1. offensively he’s amazing outside yet doesn’t have the live handle to excel at 3 imo but at the same time doesn’t post up deep enough inside to dominate inside and out. defensively he’s amazing but again it’s outside. He’s not Evan Mobley on the interior that’s for sure or even Chet but he was probably better than both guarding the exterior imo. so it’s like there’s clear stuff to work on. The good news is that he shows flashes in those areas for sure. He has some seriously questionable moments (like wow can he even dribble or hit a layup) but then has moments where he looks amazing (like damn what a dribble drive from the 3 point line into a dunk… or damn what a weak side block). At the end of the day you never know. The absolute plus side is his floor so very high. If he somehow adds the other stuff to his game the upside is insane but … it’s not easy stuff to add. Fingers crossed. I’ll be much more optimistic if he shows us stuff early on - summer league or early in the season that he’s already made leaps and bounds in those areas. his fit is insanely good. His defense is imo probably underrated given the league today. Yeah, Embiid is going to bully him but he does that to everyone and Jabari should be able to pound with most 4s and is just incredible guarding the perimeter. ultimately the thread title gives it away. It doesn’t feel like you build around Jabari but rather he’s the best possible dude to build around someone else (eg Jalen). With Paolo y you do kind of feel like you build around him potentially in the future … we shall see this is one of the better scouting reports imo
Even if Jabari bust no one can blame Stone he took who fall to him, adding ball handling skills is going to be the hardest thing for him(both Paolo and Chet have it) if he is somehow able to become a better at dribbling then we got the best possible player, I hope Jabari can find a way to work out with steph curry
I don’t get why people are trying to put dude at PF. He’s better suited at Small Forward. Happy with the pick! Stone is EXTREMELY solid at drafting. Minor nit-pick: He does need to improve on the trading side of the job tho.
I was expecting a sike cuz Jabari is a player you don't need to build around. That's the beauty of his skillset and mentality he will work with who you already got.
Cuz he is 6'10, 250 pounds and an athletic beast? With the 4 spot he can attack the rim or space for 3s.
Pretty sure doing the pre draft progress IIRC one of our insiders came out and said Jabari is not a 3 he can only play 4 and that what teams were finding out at the top, that if you drafting Jabari you knowing he can only play the four and five depending on the line up.
I don't even know why he needs to play the 3. What's the reason for that I don't get it. Are we making way for Tate of KJ Martin? lol what's the point of trying to play Jabari at 3 when we got Eason at 3.
IDK don't ask me lmao, we have people on this site who want to put Jabari at 3 when he is a bad ball handler, and we have people that trash KJ for having bad ball handling skills for a three... I have a hard time seeing Jabari just getting better at being a better ball handler that is the hardest skill set to add to your game over just becoming a better shooter or playing better def. Jabari might just be a very limited guy but maybe he will prove me wrong.
We got two TALL defensive wings in Bari (6'10") and Tari (6'8"), we instantly became more in the mold of the Raptors and Mavs.
there is literally nothing “power” about his game other than when he drives in to dunk in transition. 19 years old and isn’t close to being a finished product either, so to say he can’t play SF is silly…he can play wing. First and foremost tho…he’s a shooter. Over time, people will see…
It is ok to be limited as long as you are good enough. Curry doesn't really do anything except shoot.
It’s Jalens team. Smith Jr looks like a perfect 2nd or 3rd option. Similar to Rashard Lewis back in the day, I was like 13 when back then how was Rashards D compared to Jabari?
Jabari is a elite shooter and A plus defender but he is not a Alpha Male Star like Paolo is. I think he is a #3 star right now and Jalen is a #2 star. If Jabari tighten up his handles he can be a #2 star and then if he can create shots for others and keep his elite shooting and top level defense he have a Super Star like KD. I really wanted Paolo but Jabari works better with Sengun and we are a better defense team with Jabari. Also, he is a much better player than Woods. We are on the right track to win.
I can really see stories coming out of Green pushing Smith to work harder and Smith pushing Green to work harder in return. Guys like that with JGup will be contagious
