Like I said earlier, no Shane does is not good at dribbling or creating, but he also never tries to do it. Ariza constantly tries to do things that are completely beyond his capabilities.

And no Ariza does not stay in front of elite offensive wings, he gets beat all the time, who are you watching?

Who do you want wide open shooting that 3ball next year?

    Shane, or Trevor?

    No contest......Shane.

Its funny how you lump those 2 together. One guy is 31 and the other 24. 1 guy hit ****h shots and made plays on the way to the ring and the other find reason why not to get in the mix. I'm not saying someone wouldn't want trevor, in fact alot more teams call about trevor than shane. Shane is done no matter how smart he is. He talks a good game about how with yao out he needs to step up offensively and all we got was decline. If morey can flip trevor in a package for better players, I'm all for it and wouldn't care the least bit. All your spewing about keeping shane because he has 1 year and his value is bs. Even if this is the last run and the rockets decide to rebuild, trevor will be 25 and making less than 6m. I wouldn't put my future on the durability of martin anyway, but since you always like using the when healthy term, go ahead

    Doesn't matter....Shane FTW.....he has a better chance at success.

Look, you watch the games, neither one of them moves off the ball all that much...

They both stand around at the 3pt line.....so give me the guy that is smarter, and is an expiring contract over the guy who rode Kobe's coatails for a championship ring.

If Shane was there last year, they would have won more easily.

And Shane does? Shane stays in front of guys like Melo, Durant, and Kobe? Really? I remember he couldn't stay in front of offensive powerhouse Tayshaun Prince.

Point is those guys are hard to guard consistently, period. For anyone in the NBA.

It's funny because if you go to Wikipedia lol this is what you find under small forward.

'Defense is often a major priority for small forwards, who are often counted on using their athleticism and size as defensive advantages. Shawn Marion of the Dallas Mavericks, Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons and Trevor Ariza of the Houston Rockets who with their length and athleticism are able to guard any position on the floor and are often called upon to do so. Former small forwards known for their defensive abilities include Scottie Pippen, one of the best one-on-one defenders in the NBA for most of his career.'

I'm watching Ariza, when he's guarding decent players he more than likely wins those battles.

Also as for his offense, it will improve when we get a leader on the floor. Like any normal role player will improve with a leader. Don't say Brooks and Scola either, those guys are key players.

I think, unfortunately, the possibility of the rockets trading CBud away this offseason is higher than that of they trading Ariza away.

I hope not but if it nets us Bosh, then you got to give something to get something.

Actually Shane hold Melo to a lower shooting percentage than any player in the NBA, he also usually does a better job on Kobe than anyone else.

Trevor simply is not a very good one on one defender, he never has been, ask laker fans. He is a guy that plays passing lanes well. Shane is among the best perimeter defenders of the past decade. Ariza is average at best.

Yeah, those 4ppg on the road would have really helped out. You can do better than that. They don't win certain games without trevor and you know it. You watch the games, but pretend like you don't. Ariza rode Kobe's coattails as much as horry did dreams. You know? When he went to other teams, it didn't stop him from taking nd making big shots and making big plays.

Lol no not really. He's stopped Kobe about 3x his entire Career. His face guarding does nothing to affect Kobe's shot. You can't be serious if you believe that. Shane doesn't even believe that.

The other games Kobe has done his thing. Don't even bring up Melo, no one on this team came close to guarding him.

Plus I'm sure Durant averages over 21ppg against the Rockets.

He does not stop these guys, nor does Ariza. Not one guy stop players like these, entire team defense does.

Sorry Leeb, you and I agree more often than not, but you are just as wrong about Shane as you were about Scola.

    ;)

You want that elite athlete type of player, that is fine with me as long as they are smart too.

Shane is a better basketball player than Trevor.

No one stops them you are right, but with Shane, we don't need to double team them.

Yeah, whatever. We're not even going to get into how many times you've been wrong. Its not that I want elite athletes, i just think there are times when athletes do athletic things on the court. There are plays that only certain players can make. Utah has one of the most athletic teams in the league, yet they play withing the system and win games. You always bring up scola because I said he's ac green. He is what he is, but i've said awahile back scola was a good player who maximizes his tools. I've also said if he's you're 3rd option, then you're not going to win a title. Put scola's best season up next to green's best season and they are mirrors. I think scola is a better offensive player and green is a better defender.

I can agree with that, Shane is more about staying in front of his man. But there were times against Melo and Kobe where you have to double these guys because they hit contested shots just like they do open ones.

Ariza should be fine if the Rockets have Yao in there and possibly another Big from the draft and Hill. Ariza should be fine if he has a leader on the floor like Yao.

Ariza's defensive mistakes are mental. Thats why I think he can get better and realize his potential on defense. If we had a coach like JVG here, no doubt in my mind he would have Ariza playing at the top of his game defensively and more here would respect what he can do on that end of the floor.

while i agree he's not going to get better handling the ball, it just isn't going to happen. that he's not going to drastically improve his shooting...these are skills that you just can't improve overnight if ever. I think he has the tools on the other side of the floor and that he's not a complete liability on offense like Chuck Hayes used to be when he couldn't score in the paint (although he can now)

Sure, but you can have all the JR Riders you want, you still can't win with them.

Athleticism is great, when it is followed by fundamental skill.

Trevor is gangly, he is athletic, but he lacks the main thing you need ...quickness, he is not all that quick, he is just long.

And Trevor has CRAP fundamentals, he can't dribble the danged ball...how many wings do you know that can't even dribble correctly? I mean he is worse than Luther Head for crying out loud.

And we are stuck with him for 4 more years.....I understand why they took him....but now, we have others that fill his role more effectively.

Cbud will be a MUCH MUCH MUCH better player than either Shane or Trevor.....the sooner we clear the runway for that the sooner he takes flight.

If you agree with that statement then ask yourself which one would be more willing to take on a lessor role and still contribute, Shane or Trevor...

    The defense rests your honor.

What the heck are you talking about? Ariza is a trainwreck offensively. He has no idea what he is good at and what he sucks at, but still takes 14+ shots a game. News flash: if you shoot 3s at a 32% clip, dont take 6 of them a game. News flash: if you shoot 2s at a 40% clip, don't take 8 of them game. News flash: if you can't dribble, not drive the ball into the lane 5+ times a game. Its some very simple concepts, which Trevor just doesnt seem to understand.

By the SAME STANDARD , Battier knows what he is good at and does it. He knows what he is bad at and doesnt do it. To Trevors credit though, he has had way more flashy dunks than Shane.

Battier is effecient offensively, Ariza is not. Im fine with Ariza, IF HE PLAYS WITHIN HIMSELF, but he doesn't.

No I didnt show two games where Shane showed up. I showed you 2 examples of a mere role player going on the road as an underdog in the playoffs and completely destroying the effectiveness of two of the premiere franchise wing players in the league.

Shane showed up every game, played his tough D, spread the floor like he was supposed too, and left it all on the court.
