Ariza is a SF naturally. Why does it seem like everything that is said about him is his shooting ability? Kevin Martin is supposed to score. Chase was drafted for his shooting ability, Ariza was not bought here for that.
let's watch him develop his game from a bench role before we throw him into a starting role on a playoff calibur team. i have no doubt that he can do it eventually. i wish he'd do the dunk competition or something next year... man he'd have a cult following.
No, you arent making anything up. But you did just post the offensive stats for a defensive player (LOL) in an attempt to prove he didnt show up. Being able to keep Roy/Bryant contained for even ONE road playoff game is good enough to justify his salary and minutes. Thats all it takes to win a playoff series as a road team. In order for him to be acceptable in your eyes, he has to lock down the opposing teams best player every game while being a go to scorer. Basically you want him to be the best player ever. Well he isnt that, but he is good enough to be on this team. You pined for a Brewer or a Gay, or some other two way wing player, which we went out and got in Ariza. The result: he has been terrible. How many homeruns did CC Sabathia hit last year in the playoffs? Zomg what a choker LOL.
That seems what a lot want from Ariza also... Also I think you're mistaken if you think Ariza was going to be a Rudy Gay like player. Gay is a scorer and his defense is not something to brag about. Brewer on the other hand was a good defensive player had a bad year this season which is why the Jazz felt he was expendable. Ariza has had a better year than Brewer and Gay has had a pretty good year overall.
No there not. In the playoffs, the team that have the role players step up are usually the one that wins. The superstars are supposed to play great all the time, but having a guy pull a maxwell, kenny smith, robert horry, or sam cassell is what makes a huge difference. The big shots, the clutch plays and the unkown outburst to propel the team to victory. I'm not saying this made his entire career, but when ariza stepped up and kept the lakers in the game until the could regroup was huge. It was really the tilting point of the series. La was up 2-1 but was on the road and close to having the series tied up. Trevor scored 13pts in the 3rd, the lakers regrouped in the 4th and won the game to take a commanding 3-1 lead. To me that showed that he's not scared of the situation and the moment. The clutch steals vs the nuggets were also big in sealing those games. Those situations and play during those stretches can't be discounted. Not to mention he's 24. Before the trade of tracy, I said the rockets should just start chase and trevor at the 2/3 and move forward bringing shane off the bench. I really like chase and if martin keeps missing chuncks of games, i hope they trade him and start chase. Its impossible to build a team with injured, high priced players. They eat up you're payroll and wear alot of suits. Although he is a better scorer than iggy, iggy plays every game and is a great all around player. Every nba player plays with pain, but martin is a guy who doesn't do it very well.
Unless you're holding those guys 5,6 pts under their avg, you need to do something. Lets be real, kobe shot just as well and scored just as many points as he did in the regular season vs shane. Paul pierce, ray allen, prince and rip's offense didn't go into the tank because they had to check kobe. If you can't make kobe shoot poorly as did those teams and you're a 0 on offense, what good is that? I also noticed you left out his +/- so conveniently. Isn't that the number which showed how great shane's intangibles were? Do me a favor and post his +/- over the last 3 years in the playoffs.
Shane plays his role, and plays it well, he does not hurt the team. Trevor - well, not so much. Shane is a better team player, a smarter player, a guy who gives his team the best chance to win, he stays within himself. If he tried to do more, he would probably struggle like Trevor, but Shane is smart enough not to do more. And next year, the team will be even better. Trevor at 4 years or Shane at 1... No contest, give me Shane Battier 100 out of 100 times. DD
Yep, give me shane and his 4ppg on the road in the playoffs. I ask again pre martin trade, what exactly was trevor or the rockets suppose to do as far as scoring? I mean, he hasn't been good, but when martin is in the linup, he plays his role well. He's a 4-5 option with championship experience. Thats a mle player around the league.
no your not. If you were to hold shane to the same standard you hold ariza too on offense you wouldnt have said shane doesnt miss a ton of open shots..he does. hell, battier said at the start of the season that with no yao he would have to step up his scoring this season and hasnt done anything close to that. He has a post up game. Maybe if he would utilize it more it would take away some of the bad shots ariza takes so often. you posted two games earlier as a "myth Buster" to show that shane shows up in the playoffs both from last year....2 out of 9 games is showing up? please.
Shane is a role player who KNOWS he is a role player. And he is an EXPIRING contract. Trevor is a player who has no clue who or what he is, or how to play to his strengths, which are actually fairly small, he plays the passing lanes well, tips balls, and slashes some. The problem is he can not dribble, he can not create, and he can not stay in front of most decent wing players. And, he can't shoot..... He is 24, played 20mpg last year, and only started 20.......he is NOT a full MLE type of player, we way overpaid for him. And frankly, the situation has changed, with Martin and Budinger, we don't need Trevor anymore, and if we can find some sucker...I mean...uh...trading partner to take him....you do it. DD
He needs to set up some cones and practice dribbling and shooting 3s all summer long. And I don't doubt he stays, but man, I think we have better options....to me Cbud will be a LOT better player than Trevor.... Hopefully Trevor can keep his cool while Cbud's career blows right on by. DD
DD, you hit the nail right on the head with this one,...we dont need ariza next year, start shane and bring in C-bud off the bench....Shane will def take C-bud under his wing and teach him how to play great defense....I think Ariza is expendable at this point and prob will be traded to bring in someone like Bosh this offseason.
Shane is more valuable as a expiring than. As for the Role player thing. Trevor had no problem being a role player on the Lakers team, that team actually has leadership on the court. This team this year has had none, and Brooks is not a leader although he's our best player along with Scola this season. Shane also can't dribble and cannot create. Also Ariza DOES stay in front of decent players...what? Are you counting the times he lets someone goes past him for a steal? You make it seem like he's getting blown past by being crossed over or something. Battier is a good spot up shooter, Ariza is a better off the dribble shooter though. Battier on offense doesn't do much unless he's spot up in a spot or if he's in the paint against a smaller player for a post up.
How has the situation changed? They brought him here to replace shane as the defensive, transition, spot up wing player and hoping his game can expand from the playoffs the prior year. I would trade any player on this team and i think chase should play 30 mins a night. My disdain for shane is probably equal to your disdain regarding trevor. The only differnce is we've watched shane do 0 in the playoff with yao and tracy at their best, yet you continue to rant about what he can't do. I don know what he can do and that makes big plays on the biggest stage. I also know he's 24 vs 31 and fits any plan the rockets have. Whether they rebuild and it takes a couple of years or they try to win next year. I know it pains you the guy has a ring playing 30 mins a night in the playoffs, something you always leave out.
The ONLY reason I would keep Shane is that he is expiring, and is probably one of the smartest defensive players in the NBA. However, the future is Martin and Cbud, not Shane or Trevor..... DD
