I quote you just incase you were planning on discussing the topic eventually, but mainly incase another poster saw your comment and thought he could use it as a reason why Bud wouldnt be a liability as a starter.
Well, the last time I checked, Pierce isn't 9-14/10FTA good. And that was pretty much 3 quarters of action(dude wasn't getting the ball at all late in the game. He pretty much had his way of Budinger on offense. There's no way CBud starts as long as Kevin Martin's here. He's either getting shipped out, or he's on the bench. Although at this point with semi-emergence of Taylor, there's a chance Morey's raising CBud's value for offseason deals.
Well last time I checked Chase isn't 9-14 overall/6-8 3 pt good either. So you can say Chase had his way with Pierce offensively. That's why I said they pretty much washed each other out. And that stat line for an all-star such as Pierce is very plausible, more so plausible then Chase's stat line last night. So yes last time I checked Pierce is indeed a pretty good player.
Budinger did great. GREAT last night. Does it mean he should start? With Martin and Brooks on the floor Ariza needs to be in there. No matter how people feel about Trevor he does contribute on Defense. Pierce had his way with Bud. The fact that Allen was nonexistent and KG has lost "it" should be something to think about. Bud is a great spot up shooter. Miles better than Ariza will ever be but we will need perimeter defense next year. Ariza provide that. Great performance by the rookie and I'm glad he trampolined over the rookie wall and shot like a clutch Robert Horry.
Others have said it already but the idea of Brooks/Martin/Budinger starting at the 1-3 is the type of stuff defensive nightmares are made of. I don't see what the big deal is with keeping C-Bud in the role he's currently in. He's your typical hot/cold player. Generally speaking, those type of players usually don't start given their limitations when their shots aren't falling -- and there's no shame in that! I'm the furthest thing from a Chase hater but I can't honestly say I see 'starter' when I look at him. And again, there's nothing wrong with that. At the very worst you have yourself an extremely valuable bench scorer/shooter that will be surrounding one of the best and most frequently doubled post players in the league next year.
If you never want to win a championship, Play Aaron Brooks, Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger 35+ minutes a night.
Are we talking about Bud's defense or offense? II have no problem with his offense. And if we didn't have Martin, I wouldn't mind him starting with Ariza instead of Battier.
Don't worry ... he'll get to start when any of our guards gets injured or ill next year. That's the reason we're amassing great role players; we have a long history of injuries. This way, up and down the line-up, we're so used to having guys out, we'll still have enough game to contend with anyone.
Like I've said many times before, the 2/3 rotation shouldve been martin, ariza, buddinger. They shouldve moved shane during the deadline and develop the young guys. It really made 0 sense for shane on this team 30 games in and no yao. Chase should be a 27 minute backup next yr and martin continue to miss games like a brod, they should trade him. Its impossible to build a championship team with guys who miss chunks of the season.
Bud is still lazy at times in his defensive stance. At 6'7 guy can't move well, especially when you don't have exceptional foot speed, if he can't sink his lower of gravity. Chase can defend well at times, and showed that against Vince Carter, keeping in front of him consistently without sacrificing too much space. But to be fair, he also closes out well to shooter due to his length, jumping ability, and explosiveness
He just needs more time, he is the starting SF of the future, whether that is next year or the year after, he will be better than Ariza if he isn't already. If Trevor was healthy last night, the Rockets would have probably lost. DD
Budinger has the potential to be a decent defender, if he is motivated to work on it. IF he does, he is starter material, IMO, better than Ariza. His shooting is inconsistent so far. But then Brooks was even more inconsistent in his rookie year too.
Chase's defense has improved drastically since the beginning of the season. I do agree that he would be better coming off the bench though.
I'm a bit worried about his court awareness on the defensive end. On one play in the 1st quarter Chase didn't notice the screen Rondo set behind him and that leaded to Pierce's easy dunk catching an inbound pass. Maybe it was Brooks' fault for not shouting out to him? I don't know.
That comes with playing time and team communication...someone has to tell him the screen is coming. DD
Does anyone have a clip ob Budinger Dunking on the Spurs this past game? I was at the game and I saw it live, But I haven't seen it on TV. I was just wondering if it looked as good as it did live?
From our very own Clutch ! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CAmTX9z_xWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CAmTX9z_xWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> DD
I guess that dunk was inevitable even knowing the screen was coming. Pierce got a step on him. It would really help us had there been a legit 7-footer who could block shots. It's painful seeing opponents getting this kind of easy baskets inside the paint.
