Can someone give me a detailed scouting report on this kid and the type of stuff he has? I live out of state and couldn't catch the game against the Pirates to see him in action but he looks very promising... Thanks

i guess we all know he was supposed to be the diamond in the rough of the billy wagner trade, and now hes starting to prove it

he throws fastball, curveball, change, slider

fastball, both four-seamer and two-, anywhere from 91-95, usually around 92...gets mostly flyball outs

hammer is probably his best pitch, wicked snap, usually 75-81, it seems like he can control speeds on it kinda like roy...like kinda using the slow hook as a changeup and the power curve as a k pitch

slider is about 84-85 and it actually looks pretty ok, i dont know why he doesnt throw it more

changeup he pretty much only uses to throw guys off/get ahead early in the count a couple, maybe three times a game

as usual its all about location, but id like to see him get more groundballs, bc the flyouts he was getting in his last game could quickly turn into dingers

i dont know what you other guys think, and i know i cant base much off just a few outings, but he looks like a keeper to me, maybe not an ace...but he hasnt gotten rattled, seems to have good poise, and he handled the whole bruntlett error thing pretty well judging by the quotes in the papers...i could see him moving ahead of backe sooner rather than later, i guess time will tell

thats all ive got for ya, maybe some others can pitch in

    Swoosh,
I don't know that much about his pitching variety, but I was really impressed with his composure. The young man had serious focus.

From what I can tell, this is the pitch he has the weakest control over. Frequently it would start drifting up into the strike zone. Not too bad for a change of pace, and when he has better command of it it could be a devestating addition...but for right now I think it needs more work.

He has pretty good command of his fastball, but I think he left his curveball up and in the zone a couple times last game. I think he'd need to improve his command a bit before you can consider him a top-of-the-rotation starter. Overall, his stuff is very good and he has pretty good poise. There is a good possibility that he can develop into someone good, but he's not there yet.
