No no no. Thanks for the suggestion, but watching an once-promising talented team implode on itself due to incompetent coaching, overblown egos, and classlessness is so much more fun.

Kobe also said that last year.

There is nothing wrong with those projections when 4 or 5 teams will be separated by less than 4 games.

Who else can score besides Harden now that Lin and Parson are gone? Sure we improved on D but we better pray Harden dont suck in the playoff like he did last year.

The roster as is will get us a 9th seed. We'd be lucky to get 8th.

The Rox will not be 4th. Are you kidding me? We'll be fighting Memphis for 7 or 8. The teams that didn't make moves have leap frogged us and Dallas has leap frogged us with their additions (Chandler, Felton, Nelson, Parsons, and Jefferson)

You guys never hear addition by subtraction? Teams are not always better by adding new players.

Hold the judgment until you see how Rockets perform without Asik, Parsons, and Lin. Not necessarily worse, nobody knows.

So does McHale get Coach of the Year when we finish 7th?

Haven't they predicted the Rockets would finish worse than they actually did in several recent years? Did they predict Houston would finish fourth last season? It's probably better to be underestimated than overestimated, but there's no guarantee the roster will look the same at the trade deadline as it does now. We know Morey will be actively looking for an impact player to shake loose somewhere, either before the season or during the season. It's a little early to be making predictions with any certainty.

The Mavs team sucked last year bro.... stop talking up scrubs like Calderon and 36 and 38 year olds Marion and Carter.

    They added Greg Smith
    Tyson Chandler
    Chandler Parsons
    Richard Jefferson
    Aminu
    Jameer Nelson
    Raymond Felton

No way in hell you can look at them objectively and say that they aren't better........... I think they are a top 4 seed, 5 seed at worst

Often, subtraction _is_ subtraction too :)

    But talk is cheap.

We can speculate till the cows come home and the team will play
    however they will play, regardless.

Canaan might star/play, or he might not, and nothing any of us thinks
will happen has any bearing on that.

Have you watched basketball in the last 5 years? I don't get the excitement over the Mavs - Felton and Nelson haven't contributed anything that positive to a team in years, Tyson Chandler is slower and older, and I can't remember the last time Richard Jefferson was even close to a major contributor anywhere? + the Mavs, who sported an already bad defense, lost their two of their three best perimeter defenders in Marion and Carter, and replaced them with below-avg defenders in Parsons and RJ. Also, no one knows what they're going to get out of a 37yo Dirk.

Re: other teams like GSW, POR, MEM. Portland lost Mo Williams, who was very crucial as their bench ball-handler, and replaced him with Steve Blake, a markedly worse ball-handler and facilitator, and Chris Kaman, who has been garbage the last two years. They're going to have to ride their starting lineup to a playoff berth, and that sort of approach is high-risk because higher minutes means a higher risk of injury.

The grizzlies added VC, which is a good get, but the lack of shooting necessary to keep their offense from collapsing as consistently as it does. Calathes is not a good backup point, and Tayshaun Prince looked terrible last year.

Golden State lost their coach, so there's no telling how good their defense is going to remain, although Kerr will probably improve their offense a bit. Iguodala had an up-and-down year, is older, and despite Bogut's excellence defensively, he might give them 70 games or he might miss 70 games.

OTOH Houston added a proven defensive and shooting commodity in Ariza, a guy projected to be another good slasher / shooter in KP, and multiple hustle guys who'll fight for rebounds and add depth in Adrien and Dorsey. Adrien had a productive season in Milwaukee last year, & Dorsey was excellent in Spain last season.

The Rockets sported an elite offense last year, lost pieces that generally weren't integral to that offense (other than CP), & added pieces that ought to improve our defense, even if only slightly. Subsequently, the 'sky is falling' mentality that is increasingly popular around here is confounding - the team improved in areas it needs to, while still retaining two top 10 players in the league. Ultimately, I think the team will be competitive with the 4 aforementioned, and if they get the best out of their defensive and rebounding additions, have a shot at competing with SA, LAC & OKC

You seriously must be a Mavs fan trolling this forum. You just named Richard Jefferson, Jameer Nelson, and Raymond Felton as a few players that would make the Mavs a better team.

Tyson Chandler and Felton, 2 starters on a team that couldn't even make it to the playoffs in the EAST.
