Dwight will see the end of his contract.

Daryl will trade his kids before he trades Dwight. :)

Here is what it would take to outright sign Kevin Love:

That would make your depth chart look like the following:

    ????? / ????? / Johnson
    Harden / ????? / ?????
    ????? / ????? / ?????
    Love / Jones / ????
    Howard / Motiejunas / Capella

You would undoubtedly have to trade Jones/Dmo/Capella for a PG and a SG. Would be interesting to see what Morey does this offseason.

The numbers look about right. One thing we do know is that Morey is very willing to give up a ton of "depth" for a guy that he deems an "elite player." For example, in order to land either Melo or Bosh this summer, the Rockets basically had to give up not only the salaries that they did trade (Lin+Asik), but also DMo, Jones, etc.-- basically everyone except for Dwight, Harden, Beverley and possibly a re-signed Parsons.

When Sam Amick said so :p

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Memo to Rockets fans who can't handle anyone not named James Harden being discussed for MVP: I'm at a Warriors game &amp; may tweet about Curry</p>&mdash; Sam Amick (@sam_amick) <a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick/status/574654697857945600">March 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

By the way, I highly reading the conversation. Sam and Bima go at it pretty good.

Mathews is also a SG and plays defense. Dragic plays PG and doesn't play defense. Klay Thompson got max after a season where he put up medioce stat and was going for an extension. Last year's Klay in this offseason would also get $20mil because by 2016, $20 mil will be the new $15mil.

Ariza is pretty important to the team. Giving him up without a suitable replacement would be tough, even if Love was the prize.

Love doesn't especially care about winning.

He isn't coming to Houston. He either stays in Cleveland for the money or ends up in LA or Boston where he can become famous and hang out with Kardashians.

Morey would find a replacement... A defender that can hit the open 3.

I think the 3rd star thing is a bad idea.

Great depth with pieces that fit > 3rd star and weak depth

Not to mention the 3rd star always gets marginalized and not used to his full effectiveness. Love in Cleveland and Bosh in Miami are prime examples, though Bosh's defense was valuable for Miami. Love is more or less a non-factor. His production can easily be replaced for much cheaper.

Great defenders like Ariza aren't that easy to find.

You know the team is a lot better when the bit upgraded from last November just wanting a stretch 4 to now having an adjective in front of "stretch 4". :p
