It's not media hype. If there was a straight up and down vote right now, I think Kobe would beat AI, LeBron or anyone else. But it's a long season and it's possible none of those 3 win it. But Kobe's recent games are sick.

We've still got 50 games left in the season. Who knows, Vince Carter or even Jirk could take it. If Larry Hughes gets healthy and the Cavs finish with a good record, LeBron will probably take it.

Haha you guys have got to be kidding me. Kobe gets the MVP? ROFLMAO. If his team was even first in his division then you could try to make an argument. Most likely its going to be someone on Detroit (or it should be). Also, out of all the people listed so far, Lebron is the only one with a chance. AI, Kobe, T-mac none of these guys are gettin it, their teams just arent good enough.

While I don't think it'll happen - I really love what Billups has done this season. He's playing out of his mind and is a huge reason why their offense is going through the roof (relative for them). Not simply scoring, but his orchestration of the O. Plus, his defense has been great.

    Majorly overlooked candidate.

I heard an interesting statistic today. Kobe's 41 shot attempts were the most since David Robinson took 41 shots in a game almost 12 years ago. By the way, Robinson scored 71 POINTS in that game. So anyone who says 50 points on 41 shots is fine is just crazy.

I say the whole points per FG attempt stat is stupid because it doesn't take FTs into account.

with all due respect, billups/dirk/duncan are all better candidates than any of the three you listed. and i would easily vote for any of them before i even considered lebron as a candidate.

take duncan or dirk off the mavs and they struggle to win 30 games in a season. yet, here they are with single digit losses close to the midway point of the season. take kobe, lebron, and ai off their teams, they struggle to win 30 games also but as it is are barely .500. with that in mind, just how valuable are they? do you measure value as an ability to pad a bunch of stats or do you measure it as a player's ability to lead his teams to wins. if MVP were all about stat stuff, KG and AK47 would be my MVPs. fortunately, its not.

Are you seriuos? Dirk? Man what the hell are you smoking? Everyone listed in this thread is a better candidate for MVP than Dirk is.

Why you ask? the same reason that you just mentioned. He puts up good numbers but could not lead his team to anything. When it comes to the playoffs he has always had others do it for him. Dirk is no leader, plain and simple. Dallas or any GM would give him up for any one player mentioned in this thread except AK. That shows where he is when it comes to MVP candidacy.

Only reason he has a better record is cuz he has a very good supporting cast. Which is likely when you have an owner who doesnt care about the cap

your blind hatred for dirk is pretty ridiculous. its probably only secondary to me trying to defend dirk on a rockets board, but i digress. the same argument you made against dirk could be applied to mcgrady. dirk has made it out of the first round on multiple occasions including last year when he had no nash and finley to back him up. tmac has a much stronger secondary player, he had better front line players last year than dirk, and yet still finished with a lower seed and lost to dirk in the first round. if you want to judge MVP candidacy based solely on playoff success, you are looking at a pretty select group.

dallas would trade dirk for lebron and duncan, but no others. then again, a lot of teams would say the same thing about their respective stars. the team is built around dirk, and built around his strengths and weaknesses. spew your blind hatred all you want, but facts are facts, if dirk ever ended up a rocket, most of you would be the first in line to be a dirk nut hugger.

Kobe just top 42pts agian vs Indy

He has scored more than 140pts in last 3 games.

He has avg 42pts per game in last 8 games

He is avg. 35pts per game this season

I dont like Kobe's personality but he is the BEST PLAYER in the game right now.

Hey I am not delusional and I did not say that McGrady is a top contender for the MVP, atleast this year.

Also, we had better front line players than Dallas? Besides Yao who? Oh yes, I forgot that Ryan Bowen is a perennial All-Star.

You would only trade Dirk for Lebron or Duncan? Are you kidding me? Any GM would pick Wade, Kobe, KG, Amare over this guy in a heartbeat. You know this too. Put any of these guys in Dallas and they are automatically legit enough to take on Spurs for the WC. Dirk can never get you guys that.

Nobody can touch Kobe, he is out of his mind.

To me, the only fun left for this season is watching Kobe performing and Phil coaching.

More news about the Kobe jerk....

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap;_ylt=AhXiPdu0VuSh6ABzFioI3z28vLYF?gid=2006010913

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kobe Bryant scored 45 points, making him the first player to score at least that many in four consecutive games in more than 41 years, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers 96-90 Monday night for their third straight victory.

The last player to score at least 45 or more points in four consecutive games was Wilt Chamberlain in November 1964, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Bryant had 45 on Dec. 28 against Memphis, 48 last Friday night against Philadelphia, and 50 on Saturday night against the Clippers.

Bryant scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, reaching 45 by making two free throws with 9.6 seconds left. He also had 10 rebounds and five assists. He had become the first player with at least 45 in three straight games since Michael Jordan accomplished the feat in 1990.

    Cuban? ;)

If Dirk ever ended up in Houston I would spend about a week vomiting, and then desperately search for a way to continue being a Rockets fan.
