i dont remember any rape charges. but i do remember him taking madonna out on a date. i wonder who raped who? the alien or the slut?
Let me tell you something, you can show me the most beautiful woman in the world and i will bet you that there is some guy thats tired of sleeping with her. Lets not be naive and say just because someone has a hot wive they won't go and cheat. besides not to sound shallow but she just had a kid and maybe she aint looking like she use to.
I don't believe this, Kobe seems like your typical guy hes always cared about his reputation around the league. He was really hurt when he was booed at the all-star game at Philly. This dosent sound like kobe but sometimes athletes arent what they appear to be like Kirby Puckett and Sammy Sosa. If this is true than Kobe's popularity will never be the same or atleast in my eyes, this street cred is bs, nobody can condone assault, if this makes him more popular then this country is pretty messed up.
Usually I agree w/Will... but not at all this time. 1. Trusting a jury is like trusting Billy Mays on crack. 2. There's less at stake so the standard is different. A jury is supposed to be sure of Kobe's guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt" to convict. If I'm, say, 70% sure that he's guilty... I'm probably going to think a lot less of him. The high jury standard is there because of the grave consequences of conviction. But when the only consequence is the loss of haven's approbation (or, goodness, even his censure!), then as much proof isn't necessary.
By me saying that, I was just emphazing how hot his wife is. People are people and they make mistakes, lets just hope he didn't do it in this case.
Lets put it this way... Kobe probably did assult her... but...will she take the money... Not that I ever liked Kobe but now I dispise this guy. He assults women. By the way did anyone notice ESPN took down the article regarding Kobe and his assult here are other links to the story http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/6468325 http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/articles/20030706/481915.html
Here's an update of the article. http://msn.espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0706/1577357.html Sunday, July 6 Lakers star posted $25,000 bond -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services EAGLE, Colo. -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant turned himself in to police and posted a $25,000 bond on a felony count of sexual assault, the Eagle County sheriff's office said Sunday. The 24-year-old All-Star guard was released after turning himself in on Friday. The sheriff's office said an arrest warrant was issued after deputies investigated a woman's claims Tuesday claiming sexual misconduct by Bryant. The incident happened the previous night in a hotel in the Edwards area of Eagle County, near Vail, the sheriff's office said in a statement. After a series of interviews and a review of the physical evidence, investigators met with representatives for District Attorney Mark Hurlbert and concluded they had enough evidence for the felony sexual assault count, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Hurlbert said Sunday night that he hadn't made a decision on whether to file charges and had not yet seen the arrest report. He said the sheriff's office asked a judge for an arrest warrant instead of requesting one through his office, the usual practice. "During the investigation, Bryant was cooperative with investigators and remains cooperative with authorities," the sheriff's office said. Judge Russell Granger ordered the case sealed. Attempts to reach Bryant for comment were not immediately successful. "These allegations are completely out of character of the Kobe Bryant we know," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. "For the seven years he's been with us, he has been one of the finest young men we've known and a wonderful asset to both our team and our community. "However, since this is a legal matter being handled by the authorities in Colorado, we must refrain from further comment at this time." Similar support, and similar silence, also came from Nike. "We're pleased to work with Kobe Bryant as he is a great player," Nike spokesman Nigel Powell told ESPN.com. "But since this is a legal matter, we cannot comment at this time." Bryant recently signed a five-year endorsement deal with Nike believed to be worth more than $8 million per year. NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league had no immediate comment. Bryant was the NBA's second-leading scorer last season, averaging a career-best 30 points a game. He scored 40 or more points in nine straight games in February and also had career-high averages of 6.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists while playing in each of the Lakers' 82 games. The Lakers were eliminated from the Western Conference semifinals by the San Antonio Spurs, ending Los Angeles' run of three straight NBA championships. Bryant underwent shoulder surgery on June 12 in New York. The Lakers expect he'll be ready by the start of training camp in October. Bryant married Vanessa Laine in April 2001. Bryant and his parents recently mended a rift that developed when he became engaged to Laine when she was an 18-year-old high school student. Vanessa, gave birth to their first child, Natalia Diamante Bryant, in January. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
People keep mentioning money...and as someone pointed out, this is currently, as I understand it, a criminal matter...hence settling out of court for an agreed sum is not really a legal option. If the criminal charges are dismissed, but the prospect of a civil trial lingers, then this whole thing could get hushed up with cash...but unless you are theorizing about bribes, money is not an issue in this case right now.
Like this matters. He has millions so even if he is guilty, he'll still get off. It's the 'American' way.
What is it with people saying that Kobe "probably assaulted the woman" or "I hate Kobe now because he assaults women." WAIT FOR THE FREAKING EVIDENCE! We don't know one way or the other because the evidence is sealed. The only people who know is the woman and Kobe Bryant, and unless you're that woman mysteriously posting under a username on this message board you don't know one way or the other so why say that Kobe probably assaulted her?
Those who listen to Rome know Kobe's street-cred is a hot topic...can he sell shoes if he's a good guy? Those who are young tend to buy expensive shoes($100+) and buy models that have ballers with the most street-cred pitching them. Those who are older spend less, and the pitchman is not so important. Could this recent development as horrific as it is add to Kobe's appeal to the buying market?
Who cares? No one her knows Kobe or the women in question. I doubt Kobe or his wife or the alleged victim reads these boards. Say whatever you want...... it is America, we thrive off half truths and inuendo. Have fun, label him persecuted, label him a rapist. I do believe there is atleast some truth to the story because the police investigated and arrested him. Even if nothing happens, he needs to explain why he is at a hotel with another woman (As a lawyer I can guarantee you that the police asked if Kobe was at the hotel). People are weird, no way to tell if he is the type of person to commit adultry or sexual misconduct....we don't even know him, not to mention know him well
This argument ALWAYS amazes me. . . because the HE CAN HAVE ANY WOMAN HE CAN ideal . . .is almost like saying NO WOMAN WOULD SAY NO!!! If one did . .. how would someone act to hearing NO for the first time . . when they supposedly could have ANY WOMAN THEY WANT . . . .well obviously not But. . . for the record. . .I'll side with Kobe until otherwise convicted He has not been a knucklehead. . . off the court Rocket River
What the hell are you talking about with your "let's put it this way" like what you say is the end all be all? Also, ESPN has the Kobe story right on the front page, take a look. And what the hell are you talking about? You're the person who said you would worry about Kobe reading this board . Lay off the smack chief.
I wouldn't put anything past anyone, but I think I'm with Robbie380 on this one. Kobe has been a model citizen off the court, and he's earned the benefit of the doubt until more facts come out.
Smackpeddler, If you really are a lawyer, and you sound a whole lot more like a pompus little pimple popper, you know nobody knows anything at this point. The motivation behind all parties in this alleged incident are suspect Kobe - might be totally innocent, is only 24 and all 24 year old males do their thinking with the little head, was looking for a little non-sexual companionship since wives can change dramatically during and after pregnancy, might be pumping his street cred due some misguided advice from his marketing agents to sell shoes. The Girl - May be out for extortion, might have misunderstood the meaning of a little harmless flirtation, might be mad Kobe wouldn't pay her any attention, could be insane, could just be looking to get her name in the paper, or could have been assaulted by a supposedly 'good guy' Johnny Law - might be blowing things out of proportion because they want a little press, could be the girl's uncle, might just be doing what the law says they have to do in response to a filed report with investigations to follow. Let's just leave it at Hmmm, I wonder how that will play out? Your outrageous declarations are not funny, and are not even good smack. You are tossed. Jeep
Exactly, innocent until proven guilty is the standard in our justice system, but with the media coverage on this trial, the media will either try to convict or acquit him in their own court. If he was found guilty of doing said actions, do like my grandfather said. "Lock him up and throw away the key." He'll be just like Rick Fox in Oz, except he won't be playing a basketball star locked up in the big house, he'll be one!
