    I think Hinkie's main problem was relationships (with other GMs, with agents, etc). I think he had issues managing staff also.

    Some very smart people just don't have the right personality to head an operation. It isn't something that can be corrected. Hinkie sounds to me like an idea guy, not a leader.

    I wouldn't mind if he got another chance as a GM (as long as it isn't the Rockets). Morey hiring him as an assistant would be solid.

    Colangelo’s statements increase my suspicions even more that his wife is taking the fall. Is he saying that she dug into his stuff and shared confidential info since he did not “directly” share this info with her? And with Jerry Colangelo threatening a PR disaster if the Sixers didn’t mutually part ways Bryan Colangelo can just wipe his hands and go off scott free.

    What a time to be alive and watching NBA drama.

    And yet... she found out and posted that information.

    So, she's either a master in espionage and extracting intelligence... or you let it slip, probably inebriated, probably don't even remember it.

    I really hope this serves as an example that teams should have real standards when hiring front office members... and not give in to nepotism.

    That must be an interesting household:

    Colangelo: "Honey! I'm home!"

    Wife: "How was your day, dear?"

    Colangelo: "I'm unemployed and it is unlikely anyone will hire me for such a job again. What's for dinner?"

    Wife: "Um......Kraft Macaroni and Cheese?"

    Would agree, but we have to admit nepotism seems to be on the rise in America. (Not trying to be political but the issue stares us all in the face daily.)

    We've had plenty of great 2nd generation NBA players-- Kobe, Curry, Klay, etc. Who are the best 2nd generation NBA GMs/coaches? Are there good ones out there? All I can remember are Bryan Colangelo and JB Bickerstaff and Jim Buss.

    The Ringer scores a huge win... this is the victory Simmons has been searching for since ESPN got rid of Grantland...

    From the Liberty Ballers forum... seems like one of their folks actually understands our roster:

    There really is no other logical option, once people who know the pitfalls of LeBron to Houston, not to mention CP3 being unreliable, healthwise, going forward;

    Thanks to the new CBA, Cleveland can’t even get back any players from HOU via trade, because they would be over the Apron;
    Also, CP3 is set to get a Max contract per new CBA rules, and trying to accommodate LeBron would mess that up in most scenarios;
    Only if LeBron by accepted his player option followed by a trade, while Rockets kept CP3’s 35 M caphold, would it be possible to keep them happy; But what would be Dan Gilbert’s motivation to trade him, since he likely couldn’t back anything more than ONE #30 pic; Cleveland would have pics from 2019, 2021 and 2023; They would be needed to move 28+ M in salary to teams other than Cleveland;

    Also, with Clint Capela being a restricted free agent, there would be no guarantee at the time LeBron would agree to sign with Houston, that Capella would be available. Another team could make an offer sheet that Rockets wouldn’t match;
    LeBron might also want Eric Gordon as his teammate, which would mean that Rockets would have to move Anderson, Tucker and more; Moving Anderson for two (future #30) pics, might not be enough;

    Finally, for this to happen, LeBron would have to decide by June 30, which means he wouldn’t have a chance to visit and consider other teams.

    With all other options after June 30, it would there would be salary problems and Dan Gilbert would still have to go along;

    If this twitter account leaked nonpublic medical information about a player that hurt his free agent value, that's grounds for a lawsuit. If it was leaked by the company they player works for, so much the worse. I think this cover story is there to protect the team and Colangelo from legal liability.

    I think he's flourishing in Silly Valley for those exact same traits. Not saying that "right personality" doesn't still apply, just that the culture is more accepting of his type and that there a plenty of people with the experience to smooth over his anti-social attributes and amplify the legend/hype he's grown.

    He should've realized he was cooked and deflected the charges to make it look like he's saving his wife's image. Even the most hardcore would do that while clearing his name with whispers and unsourced rumors.

    Even if he's angry at his wife, he doesn't have to sleep with the fans.

    Not that he could anymore.

    That’s definitely a possibility. However I suspect this would be a civil case, if this did go the lawsuit route. If the player’s lawyer were smart they would say that Colangelo/Philadelphia failed in their obligation to reasonable and sensible protections against sensitive information leaking to the public even if Colangelo alledges he had nothing to do with any of it.

    Colangelo throwing his wife under the bus like this actually makes it potentially worse IMHO because it suggests the entire organization lacked the due care to prevent third parties from receiving and transmitting this information.

    I’m not a lawyer though so this is entirely conjecture. But Colangelo/Sixers should not feel like they are going to get away with this with just Bryan getting fire being enough. A statement from the NBPA should be coming soon at the very least.

    Melania, can you create a couple of burner accounts leaking info on Russia for us? Thanks. You can also use it to boast about how great your husband is too. I'm cool with it.

    Yeah, it wouldn't absolve them. But, I'd suggest (1) knowingly and maliciously hurting a player's bargaining position is worse (and worth more in punitive damages) than negligence, and (2) I think juries will reason that wives are a special case when it comes to nondisclosure.

    The thing is, if this was my wife I would take the fall, even if it was really her fault. But, the threat of legal liability and the potential that I could make her lot even worse by taking the fall would make me think twice.

    You’re right. From the Sixers and Bryan Colangelo side this was ultimately the “best” way to limit their liabilities in this mess. Barbra is honestly the one who will be in so much hot water if these stories continue and this goes into a lawsuit. I wouldn’t be surprised if this leads to an extremely messy divorce.

    The Sixers will probably just get a slap on the wrist. Colangelo and Barbra may be entangled in legal trouble (either with just themselves or with NBA players and/or the NBA/NBPA) for years to come.
