Right now, the competition level is too low. The Rockets need those tough games to determine what the real rotaion should be. Also, the earlier the Rockets find out what need to be improved through these games, the better. We don't want to live in sweet dreams for a whole regular season and then wake up in the playoffs panicing. So, I'm pretty looking forward to the games. It'll be productive.
I don't think it's a matter of setting the bar low but more a recognition that we have a lot of new players and new schemes, which means it'll take more than just the preseason for the team to figure out its identity and its rotation. And that figuring-out process will probably mean the team won't be as competitive as it could in the beginning of the season. But I'd rather Adelman sacrifice a few wins early on if it means evaluating accurately what each player brings to the table. Squeezing out a few more wins at this point is not as important as putting together the best team for the long run, IMO.
