Yeah,I hear you. I think part of the reason why NJ didn't work out was their inability to surround him with promising talent. Melo doesn't seem like the Wade type. I fully recognize that our assets are quite limited. Denver isn't that bad.If they can get better role players, Melo could still do well with them.
Morey needs to go!!! Especially if he signs a star player without a contract. Les are you reading this. Y
I dont think Melo is stupid. He sees that Denver has no upside, Billups is getting old, their big guys are never healthy, and have no diamond in the rough in the making on the bench. Their chance at a title ended 2 years ago in that 6 game series against the Lakers (those steals by Ariza really may end up costing Denver Melo).... So Melo wants to play with another star. I don't think the rumors that Melo's interest in Houston changed when yao got hurt were false. I think if we have a healthy Yao, Melo may already be a Rocket. As it is, Melo wants to go to NY because they have Amare, and can offer him max. But he feels bad about pulling a LJ, so he's told Denver, hey I'm leaving, get what you can for me. Given the circumstances, he actually did the right thing. But BSPN, and NJ Nets blew the whole thing in his face. Point is, Melo can be convinced to stay if he can be shown promise....I really believe that....but gotta get him first...
I'm not going to get my hopes up, but Melo + Camby would make this team very, very good. What ingredient isn't there in a Lowry/Martin/Melo/Scola/Camby starting lineup? You've got your superstar/alpha dog in Melo. You've got your length, defense, and rebounding from Camby. You've got excellent second and third scoring options in Martin and Scola. You've got a solid, pass-first point guard in Lowry. That team could easily push itself into the 7th or 8th seed, and not be your typical automatic first round fodder team. If all it takes is Brooks/another bench player or two/expirings, I think this is a risk worth taking.
The only thing the Rockets are offering for a Carmelo rental is expiring contracts. If he walked, we wouldn't lose any real significant assets.
what do you guys think of something like this.... Houston Receives: Carmelo Anthony Al Harrington Marcus Camby Nene Hiliario Denver Receives: Nicolas Batum Luis Scola Yao Ming Jared Jeffries Elliot Williams Portland Receives: Shane Battier Aaron Brooks Jordan Hill Chris Anderson It works financially and i think every team gets what they want.... Lowry/Smith Martin/Lee Melo/Budinger/Williams Nene/Hayes/Patterson Camby/Miller
Because we're going to get Melo and Camby for Brooks, Lee, Bud, Hill, Pat, Jefferies, Hayes and/or a one-legged Yao? Unlikely. And even if we did, are we running with an all NBDL bench?
I doubt we'd be giving up that much.. Yao's salary sorta matches up with melos.. camby for battier and jeff sorta matches salarys not saying the other teams would accept that.. but we do have 1 or 2 more expendable players, trade exceptions and picks.
