You're probably talking about the Pound Cake speech. You can google it. He may have referenced sagging pants but he talked about a lot more than that in this speech. I actually thought it was good, the speech that is.
Isn't this whole issue some 25 years old? Jesus people, get over it already. Who the hell cares? I think it looks farking stupid, but it's just not my business.
There are a lot of people that believe that in a polite society you don't have to see the underwear of whoever wants to walk down the street displaying it. There are even more people that under stand the reality that this type of behavior severely limits opportunities in the workforce. To the extent that I have to see it when walking around, it in fact is my business. Obama seems to get that idea. I am not sure why there are so many people that fail to grasp this concept.
Right. So the people who refuse to pull up their damn britches will be marginalized and/or work menial labor and/or work jobs that might not be menial but where such things aren't as big of a concern as they are in say, the business setting. Go ahead and let 'em work where their manner of dress will be more acceptable. Whose gonna dig the ditches but the ditch diggers? Look, I think it looks r****ded. I've said that and I'll continue to say it. But the fact that any government anybody is spending my money over saggy effing pants offends me. And if it doesn't already, it should offend you, too. EDIT: I'm not trying to say that I don't see your point. I do. But where does it end? How much racial stuff is going to come up if black folks get in trouble for it more than white folks? Judging from what I've seen, the brothers are the primary offenders for saggy pants. And yes, it's a double standard, but I like seeing thongs and hip-hugging pants on the ladies. Granted, I've seen some fatties dressed like that who don't have any business dressing like that, so what does that mean? The fatties with their muffin-tops get a ticket? What about me? My hair is damn near to my waist. Am I going to be next for the dress code police? I'm in nursing school in part because I can keep my hair. I've chosen a profession that means I don't have to worry about such things. So where does it end? To me it should end NOW. The buck stops here with me and you the tax-paying public. I didn't want them using it to investigate blowjobs and I sure as hell don't want it involved in friggin' saggy pants. [/rant]
When we were kids, even in and around Houston, 25 years or so ago, you still had folks in the neighborhood, looking after you and at you. We took care of each other, much more than now, and it was ok for an adult to say out right : "You look silly. Get it together man." No laws suits, no 2nd thoughts, you looked silly. It's a sense of community and pride that old dudes like me talk about and the we could use across the nation and in the neighborhood. That being said, I let my pants sagg (but you can't see my drawers) Word.
