Why? It is kind of a no lose situation. If the Knicks match on Lin and we do not get Howard, then we are going to have more cap space and will get a higher draft pick. If we get Lin and we get Howard, we will still have the financial flexibility to add to the team. If we do not get Howard, then Lin is only 24 and will be part of the rebuilding process.
theres alot of rumors that contradict one another, one 'source' says they wont match and another one says they will.. I have no idea but it seems if Lins marketing and hype money would more than make up for that tax hit, so Im a little nervous NY may match.. Tuesday cant come soon enough, hopefully Brooks dont sign anywhere until then
Caught that last week, wasn't sure if that was still current. Having watched Fortson and Machado on Saturday, think he'd help make the team look like it has a PG out there. (kinda thought he did that when Brooks was still on the team too)

My belief is that we're going to get Howard regardless, so that's the scenario I'm worried about (if Lin is matched). If the Rockets acquire Howard, the team needs to make a run this season, and Brooks seemed an ideal fit from a price and availability standpoint at PG. The free agent options, after Lin and Brooks, don't look appetizing at all. You could probably pry Calderon from Toronto for not much cost, but that $10.5 mil salary could be prohibitive to making other moves. It seems Brooks wasn't willing to wait out the Lin decision, and that's where the Knicks' version of stall-ball could hurt us.
