uh, isnt shooting bricks from 3 and missing floaters the reason you got rid of rafer? rafer's good at handling the ball, setting plays and playing defense. so ishmael sounds like rafer ver 2. am i correct?
This is pretty ridiculous. 1) The Wolves are the worst team in the league. 2) They didn't even bother guarding Ish. It didn't matter tonight, but it will when we play actual NBA teams.
ive been thinking for two plus seasons brooks would be ideal from the bench. just seems obvious to me.
I really cant say anything at the moment because TWOLVES SUCKS!!!!! But i do agree Brooks would be good coming off the bench with a spark instead of letting him and martin do their thing defensively. I also agree Brooks have the tendency to look for his own shot first and then find an teammate when the shot clock is down Still as Clutch said, Brooks went against Curry, Ellis, Fisher, Parker and Billups while Ish played Wolves
Brooks is a great player. He is one of the most underrated scorers in the league. he can score at will, and he shoots at a really high %. With that being said, he is absolutely detrimental to any pass-oriented offense (see: Adelman's offense). He simply lacks the vision & the willingness to share the basketball with his teammates (see: Allen Iverson). He might strive in a system similar to the one they ran in Philly for Iverson back in his hey day, but he will deflate the crap out of an offense that requires him to make plays for his teammates and give them the ball in situations where they can score. Me being a fan of the pass-first PG, I absolutely hate watching Brooks no matter how awesome his high-off-the-glass lay ups are. Add in how god awful he is on defense, and you have a perfect recipe for disaster. Give me Lowry over Brooks any day. I really think Morey needs to explore possibilities to trade Brooks for us to play up to our potential.
This is also why Brooks is throwing a tantrum about his extension. He knows last year was his best chance to post big numbers and his value is going down from there.
brooks is too good of a scorer to trade him. please stop talking about trading him. HE should be the SG, not PG..that's the solution to the problem. Bye.
This is quick man, just 6 quarters. why not keep mouth shut and watch a few more games. Ish has his problem just like aaron does.

This being a contract year, Brooks is under pressure to perform. Well, the Rockets FO could have eased his anxieties a bit but didn't, so I can't totally blame AB. He's playing the way he played last year. He still hasn't adjusted to Yao's presence. Maybe watching Lowry and Ish for a while will help him. Lowry, once he gets back, will have a chance to be a starter. Hopefully all our players will not mind whether they start or come off the bench.
Thread is full of win. Props to OMR! Highly subjective fellas. To be honest, I've liked this Ish guy since I saw him playing in preseason. He seemed like a true point and showed signs of promise being a rookie. So far he seems to be doing well. I do notice that when he entered the game, everyone seemed to be more involved and people where spread out nicely in the right spots. Ish's timing and passes were on point which lead to easier executions. If Ish didnt get the assist, a pass that started with him that lead to another pass created an easy shot. The timing was much better with him and his ability to probe the defense is something AB nor Kyle can do effectively. This was evident in half of the Spurs game and tonights game. Yes, its a small sample and only the Pups which they are horrible. But lets not shy away from the fact that this was his first start in the NBA and he didnt let the jitters get to him at all. He did a fine job doing what he does and didnt force the issue. Very promising I tell you. Brooks was our man last year and needed to be. He needed to be our starting point who can score/create in order for us to have a fighting chance. Lets not forget he was running w/ Ariza on a Yaoless team so thats why he was asked to play that role. Ariza was also given the green light and we all know how that went. Brooks emerged as an upper echelon scorer but his playmaking still suffered. This defeciency was masked because we still had Landry and of course Scola. Landry had the ability to finish if Brooks would just dump the ball down low to him at the right spot. Plenty of times, we had nothing going on in the fourth quarter Landry saved the game for us . Good ole Scola is crafty and could create for his own or convert off of one of AB's bad pick n roll plays. He was that good which further masked Brooks shortcomings. Have you noticed how well we did last year when Rick ran the Brooks/Lowry backcourt? For one, Brickriza saw less time and Brooks slided to the 2 with Kyle running the show. Rocket was racking up easy points because of Kyles ability to run point, play Defense, and most of all Brooks is now just relied to score. The new guy for now, Ish Smith. We can all say what we want on how its only one game, its the wolves etc, but really! We got lucky to have this undrafted rookie. With how the season is starting out being down 0-5 and BOTH of our PG's down, we could have not asked for anyone better. Do you think someone like Garrett Temple would have the same impact? The court vision that he possess is not something you can expect Brooks to develop which he may never. I think what Houston wants is AI and Rajon Rondo merged into 1 and thats not going to happen unless we get real lucky. I'd like to say that Ish's handles, ability to control tempo, court vision, quickness and defense is already ahead of Brooks. Possibly ahead of Lowry too but not by far. Give this kid more burn and he may develop a decent jumpshot and ability to finish. Brooks at the moment only makes an impact to the game with his scoring. Lowry does more with his hustle, defense and ability to draw fouls attacking. Smith showing signs of being a great playmaker and better Defense than Brooks. Ish looks like a Rondo lite in the making and will only get better. The moment that Houston traded Landry and got Martin, I believe that we no longer needed the AB that was asked to score and TRY to improve his playmaking. Martin is a capable scorer from the perimeter and much more efficient. If anyone noticed, since Landry was traded we went on a massive slump which ultimately lead us out of the hunt. If Scola was off, we lacked Landry's crunch time scoring. Martin was too new and we loss Landry's intesity and that was the deal breaker. It was just too inconsistant night in night out because we were heavily relying on AB's scoring and if he was hot, that was the only way to win. And of course that's not including if Ariza did not shot us out of the game too. Now with Yao back, Martin in the mix and Battier slumping, the team would benefit from a PG like Ish. Timing is very important with the way Yao plays. It is up to the PG to drop the pass to him at the right spot when he's set, right moment before he is double or tripled. If the timing is right we should see more of what we've seen recently: Martin (efficent scorer than Brooks) is getting more touches and easier looks. Scola is getting set up with better catches in motion, Yao more involved in the offense, in and out play with Yao and Martin, cuts to the rim by Battier lol, and PnR or Pick n Pop with Scola. Everyone in the starting lineup is involved. With Smith, you lose Brooks scoring but everyone else improves and is more efficient. But who said you have to lose AB's scoring... Brooks would make a great 6th man and is NOT a trade asset. He could be a huge spark off the bench and since Smith can't shoot we have a deadly backup that would confuse opponents and keep them guessing how to play our gaurds. Extend Ish on the Low and possibly trade Lowry and/or Battier/JJ/Picks. We are a legitimate Small Foward away from being real contenders. Brooks/Martin= 2 Liability on backcourt Defense Ish/Martin = 1 Liability on backcourt Defense Brooks/Lee= 1 Liability on backcourt Defense With the chances for less helping on defense, the front court can concentrate on sticking to their man or setting themselves up for rebound.
OP I agree with you, but like others have stated we won't know until a few more games. Also, I have to disagree with you have Lowry is all up tempo. He can slow down the game but he knows that that is not his job. I think all we have to do is put Lowry in the starting line up and brooks in the second unit. Lowry isn't a good shooter either but he can attack the basket and his D is up to par. Yao/Lowry/Martin/Battier/Scola We go back to having a good defensive team and the production from battier increases instantly. For one reason or another Battier can not play with a Martin/Brooks combo. But the second we had to switch things up, I saw him becoming more active in both the defensive and offensive end. Some one please tell me what is brooks good at. He can only light it up by scoring. His passing is below pointguard average and his D is just terrible. Why would we need him in the starting lineup when we have Martin, Scola, and Yao (most of the time). Also when lowry is out there he is not a sucker in the offense either and battier showed (in the right circumstances) he can put up a few each night.
I have the same thougts here. I'm blamiing MOrey for not extending a contract to AB. He was teh most impvorved player last year. And his back up point guard got something. That's the reason why AB is a bit mentally out of sync this seaoson Can't blame the guy, he put his heart last year for nothing. Morey you're just too stupidly smart this time,. whatever that means.
