7-8 mil if he doesn't imporve dramaticlly this year. Lowry only got 6mil, Scola as a big man with higher ranking than AB at their own position got 9mil. I don't see how AB at current level can get more than Scola.
If this team makes it to the WCF, I'm guessing Yao will either be asked or will volunteer to take less than the market demands so that we can potentially re-sign Brooks and other FAs. Morey's model of signing high value contracts like rookies or max players would suggest that he won't be looking to sign for more than 7mil. If another team puts up over 7 mil, I don't think we match except to do a sign and trade somewhere to pick up a couple players on rookie contracts. This is the value of developing assets while only paying them on rookie contracts--you can easily parlay them into other high value assets because of their RFA status. Morey had to pay Lowry 6mil because this is the year Les is going all in. There was no choice. That's why if we don't get to the WCF, they'll ship off a bunch of these assets.
The Rockets are already stuck in a lot of long term deals with the extensions of Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry, both of whom are nice players, but not game changers. Morey will probably be hesitant to give Brooks a new extension that would make our cap situation even more inflexible, even when Yao Ming's salary comes off the books next season. From Morey's dealings with Lowry and Brooks, you can see who he values more as a point guard.
If I were him, I'd be sweating bullets. Sure, he's making good money in absolute terms at over $1m/year. But, he's a year away from multiplying that rate by 5 to 10. He's made maybe $5m so far and he might be kissing goodbye $25m-$50m with one ACL injury.
Didn't Scola just get a $9 mil per year contract? Brooks deserves similar as they are both equally important to the Rockets IMO. Also, $3 mil more than Lowry makes sense.
Well, I'd say he's worth about 6-8, but will probably get paid 8-10. He's a great shooter, alot of teams will be interested in him. Hopefully we can keep him around, he's alot of fun to watch.
Brooks scored 19.5 pts per game last year. Have any NBA players been signed to free agent contracts in the past couple of years that averaged close to 20 pts per game, and what did they sign for? I know that the new CBA deal may change what players make in the future, but I would like to know what a 20 pt per game player has been worth the past couple of years.
Thanks, Mike James scored 20 per game for Toronto in 2005, but he was already 30 yrs old at the time. Shouldn't a 25 year old Brooks coming off a "most improved player" season be able to get more than the MLE.
get paid aaron! ...you deserve the raise little man. more than 6 mil and we could be hurting. if he wants to stay he should find a contract with DM that will allow him to stay. let's hope morey can make that happen.
Doesn't that apply to basically every player going into the last year of their existing contract, especially rookie contract (at least if you are any good)?
You say that now, but for these guys... it's hard to settle. Why would you settle for 1.5 mil when you could easily get a lot more money somewhere else? If AB doesn't get the money he wants, I expect him to move somewhere else. That's business.
Perfectly fine with me. I'm sure the Rockets are scared of an undersized SG who plays 0 Defense holding them hostage.
^^^^^^^ This all the way... The only worries I have if it does go down we might need someone to check up on DD.... Don't worry DaDakota we will help you through this arduous process...
