talk about ridiculous argument john lucas wasn't one of the best players in the big xii, he was on one of the best teams brooks was one of the best players in his state in high school, and he was a top pac ten player. john lucas, well he's john lucas the third
We will never know about where AB would have been picked if we hadn't picked him so arguing that point is a complete waste of time. Now, on whether or not Lucas was one of the best players in the Big 12, well that is straight up fact. So where will this stop anyway? I mean we are discussing NBA here and you keep dropping further into history. First it was Summer League, which we all know doesn't necesarily translate to NBA then it was College and PAC 10(Not impressive last year IMO) now it's high school. I bet AB was good in city league when he was 7 too. None of that means squat. The only reason you have to go here is because AB hasn't done jack in the NBA and until he does we can only speculate. Give it up. In 3 months you can start tootin your I told you so horn or... you can forget about all this cause you were dead wrong and not likely to admit it. The good thing about my position is if I'm wrong it's a good thing.
Sorry for the double post but I have to do this just so I don't have to read anymore uniformed drivel about John Lucas's college career. I think being named Big 12 player of the year makes you one of the best in the Big 12. Being nominated for the John Wooden award makes you one of the best in the country. Please know what your talking about next time you post. Finished collegiate career at Oklahoma State after playing his first two seasons at Baylor … career total of 1,877 points (766 at Baylor; 1,111at OSU) ranked fourth in Big 12 history … ranked third in 3-point field goals made (281) and fifth in total assists (535) in Big 12 annals … e arned All-Big 12 First-Team accolades in both seasons at OSU, averaging 16.3 points and 4.3 assists in 68 career games with the Cowboys … as a senior, shared the team lead in scoring with Joey Graham, averaging 17.7 points and 4.1 assists … following a junior season where he averaged 15.1 points and 4.5 assists, he was named the Big 12 Player of the Year by The Associated Press, Daily Oklahoman and Fort Worth Star-Telegram, joining teammate Tony Allen as the Big 12 Co-Players of the Year … was also one of 10 players named to the 2003-04 John R. Wooden Award All-American Team … at Baylor, he was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection by the league coaches as a sophomore and earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors.
For what it's worth, rumors were that Phoenix and one other team would have drafted him if we did not. Not this this is material to the discussion.
Just wondering, how did we end up with Lucas? Draft picks?..or did he come along with another trade, like Butler on Scola's trade?
Phoenix would've drafted him for sure. I wonder if AB is disappointed he didn't get to play behind and learn from Nash?
The difference is that Brooks is younger and still has the very slim chance to be NOT like today's LucasIII. Actually, I don't think this is a big difference at all. But a difference is a difference. To those who think AB could be an all-star PG: Wow! that is a brave prediction!
and all this has really translated to a great pro career where he can't get minutes behind rafer alston. sorry if i don't know the lucas biography.
Dude you have to realize college is totally different from the pros. I'm a die-hard OSU fan and I saw a lot of games with John Lucas on the team. granted, he did lead them to the Final Four, but his height and game doesn't translate to the pro game as well. I also saw a lot of Pac 10 games and I also watched Brooks some too. Now I love my homeboy Lucas but Brooks is just taller and more talented.
The only reason I posted that was because a poster questioned JL3's play in the big 12 while building up Brooks based on his play in the Pac 10. Lucas is done here but I don't understand why people around here wanna bash him but are in love with Novak. Novak == No as in "No Game" and vak as in "SUCK" and to pgabriel above If losing playing time to Rafer is a bad thing then Mike James, SF3 and Aaron Brooks all suck.
Right. 'Lucas is done'. So maybe these people just want to protect their hopes on AB, by bashing Lucas and thus exagerating the difference between the two. 'AB won't reapeat that fate.' That might be the actual sound in their minds.
I wonder if anyone who watched the game last night wants to comment on which player looked better, Lucas or Brooks? I mean since Brooks is more athletic and a better finisher and distributor surely in 35 min. he got to the hole at will and finished or passed?
Yea. Go Brooks! The 3 - 16 from the field was pretty impressive. (only) Four assist in 35 minutes was pretty impressive. The one rebound also inspired me. And he took more shots than anyone else from either team. Really, really impressive.
Rik Smits wasn't a bad player. I hope Adleman drops Yao's minutes to something more like what Smits got. 25-29 min would really help Yao IMO to keep him healthy and extend his career.
dude, the season hasn't even started yet. let's wait to see how much james gets off the bench compared to what lucas did. not hating on lucas, he's just a borderline nba player, brooks is a legit prospect.
But both Nash and AI are masters at what they do, along with their speed and quickness. Nash has tremendous basketball IQ and so does AI (but in his case not much intelligence in general). They each have a complimenting sense and knowledge of the game, and that's what makes them great, even though Nash is helped in part by a system that fits his style.
BROOKS IS A ROOKIE. There is going to be a learning curve, so cut him some slack. Give him a month at least. This is the same guy who was competing (not just playing) against the likes of Jason Kidd and Kobe Bryant during the summer Olympic trials.
Everyone bags one jvg about the playing time he gave people but they don't seem to care that he gave lucas none. legit prospect == borderline NBA player that hasn't proven he is even border line yet and as far as the comment about Brooks "competing with" and not just "playing" Jason Kidd, Kobe etc.... That wasn't Kidd or Kobe in Memphis last night that brooks wasn't competing with. I hope you don't really think that we wanna ever see Brooks on Kidd or Kobe or even Williams. I will give Brooks credit when he earns it.
u guys analyze based on one game which makes it sad. bashing brooks and mike james and not realizing that rafer was horrible at shooting all year round last year and when he shoots well in preseason we seem amazed. Use some common sense and use larger data (last year) not just 4 preseason games and we know what rafer's status quo is=horrible shooter and average p.g. i would get damon stoudamire or play james or francis over him
