No, actually we got Ron Artest for 2 first round draft picks and a nobody.

That is not the same as the Spurs trading SCRUBS for Jefferson....

Ron never fit here.....as long as Tmac was around...

We need to flip Tmac's contract to get Vince Carter.

I completely agree. I wouldn't want to see Landry leave unless a quality big man was brought in....one with some size. I honestly believe Morey is going to pull something off that none of us saw coming but almost everyone is happy with.

Of course, McGrady will go but I think a rotation player will be on the way out too even if it is in a separate deal.

If a rotation player goes in a separate deal, the player coming back must be of equal value plus a pick or a better player. All the gains attained in the Tmac deal ( assuming He is dealt for quality player/s ) will go for not.

Maybe I just don't get it. So instead of trading the older declining players like battier or tracy and even a capped out guy like scola, we should trade the 2 guys with the biggest upside. Again I ask the question, what would jerry west do? I've followed the league long enough to know a gm like west would have capped out upside guys like battier and scola on the blocks. Look at anyone from norm nixon to vlade divac to brian cook and mo evans. The spurs just got jefferson and got rid of all their old guys except finley. Maybe that's why they are just a flat out better orrganization than the rockets.

The same Spurs gave us Scola two years ago and the same Spurs you admire lost during the 1st round this year.. Our organization has done a better job than Spurs ever since Morey became the GM.. Plus, the season hasn't start yet, so please be patient...

On another note, I think Morey is open to trade Battier and Tmac just as much as Landry and Brooks, it just depends on the kind of offers we are getting...

Landry? No! That dude is full of energy and has a nice perimeter shot. What's important, he plays with intellegence.

Brooks? Yes! It just pisses me off that some people compare him with AI. I pretty much agree that he plays the AI style(shoot randomly, fast driving...), but he definately hasn't the potential to reach AI's achievement.

    Brooks? Upside? Definitely.

    Landry? Upside? Questionable.

I love Landry to death but I have no problem with him being shopped as part of a deal to get a better PF or quality SG. Brooks is a different can of beans that i'm only willing to part with in the event of a no-brainer. Landry is much more replaceable than Brooks. Given all the Leon Powe/Brandon Bass types out there you can find another player like Landry much easier than you could a player like Brooks. Landry is never going to beat out Scola. You might as well send a feeler out there to see what his value is to teams that don't have this same "problem" that we have.

All i'll say is we can't get suckered into making a San Antonio reactionary move just for the sake of making a move. The only reason SA was able to pull off this apparent steal is because of the financial implications involved. And not that I think you needed reminded of that, but it is important to remain level-headed when asking LA to make yet another bold, risky move that could likely cost him $1-for-$1 down the line. If adding Landry into the mix is the difference between "Player A making $$$$" and "Player B making $$$" then that's something you have to consider.

If Brooks or Landry can land a lottery pick, so be it. But thats not possible is it?

Id rather see one of them packaged with Tracy to land a proven SG.

The Spurs have won a few championships and kept most of that nucleus in place. I commend them for what they did. It was a good deal for them, but we are talking about a little bit different scenario. All of those old guys they got rid of were ages 37, 37 and 34. The Rockets simply don't have anyone like that dragging us down. Role players should not be seen as untouchable just because they are young. The original point was that they may have actually been drafted to help facilitate future trades. If they play better than expected, it should only increase the value of the return you should expect for them. If you can't get that return, they can continue to play a role on this team. This was not intended to be a "We must trade Brooks and Landry" thread. Just wanted to present the idea that there may be several layers to these deals.

They gave away scola to the rockets and what has the results been? Last year the spurs were in the conf finals and won another division title. The rox have made it to the 2nd rd and haven't been higher than a 4 seed. They gave scola away, but the rockets had to take jackie butlers contract also. This not a knee jerk to anything the spurs did. I just find it amazing that the rockets have been in need of a jefferson type player and the spurs got him for trash. Then i'm in this thread talking about why we shouldn't trade the only upside players we have and instead should focus on trading the maxxed out players like shane, scola, and tracy. Like I said, I don't see or think west would make these kind of moves.

We do have to weigh potential upside vs maxed out production in every case, but it all depends on what we can get in return. I don't want to see Landry or Brooks traded unless it improves us,or for that matter anyone else. A lot of low balling happens with any trade scenario, unless you get lucky ala Jefferson.

I would not mind seeing Landry go, because I think Chuck deserves more time...and to be the primary second string PF.

And I do think that Kyle Lowry is a better PG than Aaron Brooks...

Not to mention Chuck plays some mean defense, which Landry is lacking in. Now if Chuck would just work on those freethrows, its like watching a train wreck.

So we were not higher than a four seed, we are still much improved. We win the last game of the year and we are a two seed. Obviously you saw us take la la land to seven games. I don't want to give away guys like Brooks and Landry. That being said you make a deal and it usually has to sting a little. I'm with you on trading Tracy but lets at least be patient. Has Morey let us down yet? I actually have a harder time trading Battier and Scola because you know what you are going to get. Imho they are the glue of this team.whether they are producing like we want or not, the effort is always there. Thats not to say I think Landry and or Brooks don't bring it. I like them both alot. I just feel like you need guys like that to win a ring ala Elie. For as great as West was I really don't care what he would do. I care and trust what Morey is going to do and for one am being patient

Lowry is a younger cheaper version of Rafer who can finish at the rim. Brooks is wayyyyy better than Lowry.

Lowry has more room for growth, he reminds me of Deron Williams.

Trading Brooks to draft another PG may very well be taking 2 steps forward, 3 steps backwards for the Rockets. As deep as the draft is in PGs, they are all unproven commodities. Good PGs are very rare and we haven't had a solid PG since Sam Cassell (Stevie Franchise, LOL, and his ball hogging and bad decision-making, was a 2 in a PG's body). As flawed as Brooks is, he is battle-tested, and the Brooks-Lowry combo is one of the team's strengths.
Our biggest need is to draft/trade for a wing who can feed the post. A guy like Harden, from Arizona St, in the draft, would be ideal. 6 ft 5 with a 6 ft 11 wing span and no weakness in his game. He is B. Roy version 2.0. I'm all for trading anyone but Yao and Brooks to get him.

I dont know how you can say that. He isnt going to get any faster, his turnovers are already low, he is already a good defender. He isnt going to learn to be a dead eye shooter.

Comparitively Brooks has all the tools, all he has to do is make better decisions with the ball which is alot easier to do once he is more comfortable with his position.

To OP: It's no surprise that people on this board overvalue our role players to the point of absurdity.

Or have you forgotten how many people disliked the T-Mac trade because of... wait for it... Kelvin FREAKING Cato. My god based on the posts at that time you'd think Cato was a freaking all-star.

Brooks and Landry are NOT worth all that much. Both are no longer that young(seniors coming out of college). Both are undersized for their position. And both are ROLE players. If other teams think they're going to be stars, then I'd be annoyed if Morey didn't jump on that.
