I agree with this. I see all the best case scenario comparisons to Beal & LaVine and while they are pretty good players, the problem is that you have to pay them max money and paying a 3rd / 4th best player on your team max money just screws up your cap. It's really hard to build a championship roster if you are paying that level of player max dollars.
Atlanta's schedule is fairly difficult. Sucks that this race might come down to us not taking care of business against Brooklyn when we faced them last.
Completely agreed. His lack of size is compensated by Amen's. His shooting balances them. A lot of intelligence and playmaking between the 3.
I was going to crack a joke, but you know... We've talked a lot about his mental issues... but I'm honestly starting to feel bad for him now. You don't get multiple surgeries if there's not a real problem. I guess the back really has been holding him back from at least having some kind of NBA career. Back issues can also really f*ck up your life no matter how wealthy you are.
I don't think someone gets even one back surgery, let alone multiple, unless it's a real issue. Simmons didn't initially get the benefit of the doubt because of how things ended in Philly, but it's pretty clear he's made multiple efforts to get back on the court in Brooklyn. He could have easily just pulled an Eddy Curry if he just wanted to cash his checks.
Sure, but after the first surgery, I think a lot of people were kinda thinking "why is he not getting back on the court by now?" and chalking it up to a lack of desire to play basketball. It seems that was incorrect and his back is still messed up.
With his injury history, Ben Simmons would likely be offered a Vet minimum type deal if he got another contract, give his back surgeries, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, and now he was most recently experiencing leg pain due to the back issue. He has expressed mental health issues, and I can see this leading him to potentially retire early. With him making over $200M in guaranteed NBA money, it doesn't seem worth it to play for another $10M-$20M and put your body through that, especially when you are playing on teams like the Nets where you will not be getting a ring.
With the assumption that we lose our pick to OKC and Brooklyn’s pick lands #8 I would be enthusiastic about trading the pick…assuming our draft experts don’t have a strong conviction about a player that would be available.
I am not enthusiastic that the Rockets could get a good draft asset if they trade it. Unlike Dadakota, I don’t think the Rockets need a vet starter as there just isn't room (i.e., pick probably isn't enough by itself to get a difference maker). Rockets likely need a little lottery luck or some draft night luck with someone falling to them. (Though I would be fine with trading for future draft capital if a fair trade is there)
FVV and Brooks I really all the veteran influence and such that we need. I had always hoped that Tari would start next year in Brooks would go to the bench, but I guess now that is unlikely. Maybe we roll with Amen as SF next year. I wouldn’t mind spending some money on a veteran shooter to come off bench though. I really like Reed Sheppard but I have a hard time seeing him be super impactful in the NBA next year and I want to win 47 to 50 games next year. Buddy Hield or Gary Trent maybe?
I sincerely doubt we keep FVV past next years deadine. That contract is a facilitating piece with which picks should be attached.
I don't want a vet, but a good young player could be worth it. Doesn't have to be a star or future star.
