The more I see you post, the more I want to meet you in person and shake your hand. You sound like a 'cool' guy in my book. Anyway, I have been going to clubs since I was 15 and if you've seen one then you have seen them all. It's nothing too special. Stuff like this happens all the time in clubs and it is dumb.
I suppose, but the whole concept has always been pretty foreign to an outcast like me. Probably because I grew up a sheltered homeschooled freak spending all my time on the internet. Eventually I did force myself into social situations to learn how to interact with people. I'm a social person now, and I'm not against going out and having fun, I just personally don't really find the need to go to a club. I'm not really a "party it up" type of person. I would rather go to a Wings place and watch a game. Thats just my personality. Not looking down on those who do, which is pretty much everyone else.
Yeah.. I'm back in Houston after 3 years away... it was Ei8ht. It was a buddy's bday and he wanted to go there. We drank a decent amount beforehand so the $10/drink wasn't an issue. I used to promote downtown back about 7-8 years ago so I remember the hordes of asians (and indians were awesome at the same thing). It's all boring to me now anyways. Give me a bar with a decent ratio of men/women, good music and cheap drinks. Best place I've been to so far is Union Bar. The drinks are cheap on Saturdays... and they have stripper poles for the ladies (I know, real classy)
I've heard bad things about NOX as well. The bouncers just rubbed me the wrong way that night. He told me that we should have gotten there early. Regardless, he still was letting people in with t-shirts right in front of me. I tried to be nice about it, but just gave the cold shoulder like the guy in the original article. Like I said before, I left and won't go back. If I have a group of friends that want to go there, I'll convince them otherwise.
Clubs are whack. Bars are cool. If I'm forced to yell, use hand gestures and head movements to communicate with someone, it's not really a great place to be. Plus the dark atmosphere doesn't help when you start rockin' the beer goggles. They're ok if you're absolutely blitzed and don't really care about talking to people.
I would if we were not 700 miles away. I really need to get back to Houston, I believe the last time I was there was in 04.
Bring back the rave days when no one cared what you looked like and no dress code applied...as long as you're ready to party at 3 am. If you don't want to be around judgmental doormen or crowds, house/techno/DnB/etc nights are still your best bet.
Color me completely unsurprised. I've been dragged to Bronx Bar before, and saw black guys get denied for wearing sneakers or having "baggy jeans", while there were lots of white guys inside wearing flip-flops and shorts. And despite the stringent door policies, they have far and away the most fights in the Village. I've only been three times, and fights broke out on two of those nights, not to mention the numerous other fights that I've watched from the patio at Brian O'Neills.
