Carr was handed the starting job and he's had 4 years as the unchallenged starter to prove his worth. I would have brought in someone to at least challenge him a little in training camp if only to push him to work harder. His biggest strength is he's tough as nails. I want more from the QB position. I want a play maker and a leader. Yes the O-line was bad. Yes the receivers were bad. Yes the play book was weak. Yes D Carr was a big part of the whole problem. He doesn't make players around him better. He throws temper tantrums on the field. He isn't respected as a leader in the locker room. He maybe part of the reason the offense had to be dumbed down. IMO he is part of the problem and not part of the solution. DDavis has played on the same team with the same receivers and the same O-line but he has been a success (when healthy). And that is with the Defenses stacking the line because they don't have to worry about Carr and the passing game. True any QB is going to have problems when facing constant pressure against playoff caliber defenses. Some players find a way to cope and win games. Some step out of bounds for a sack then show up their linemen by throwing the ball down and pouting. Please answer the question. How long does he get a free pass? His free pass is over from me. I'll cheer when on occasion he does make a decent play but I'll be the Texan fan booing him after every missed read, unnecessary sack, temper tantrum and poorly thrown ball.
First, it is hard to make plays when the receivers don't run the right routes or don't catch the ball. Carr had a good season in 04 completed roughly 60% of his passes, threw for 3500 yds, and had more td than ints. That is a good season, especially for a third year QB with the talent he had around him. Second, I can't understand why some people cannot or will not accept that a line can be a good run blocking line (which ours is) and at the same time be a poor pass blocking line. All of our RBs look pretty good when given a chance to play because our line can run block. Run blocking is locking your guy up and driving him off the line. Pass blocking is about foot work, quickness and balance. Some of our guys are simply horrible in this regard. BTW, defenses don't have to worry about the passing game because of the line and our receivers catching that ball. Look, I am not saying Carr is all world, but he has not been given a chance to succeed. He has been put in the worst possible situation from day one, and the team has done little to help him in any regard. If not for getting lucky lucky with DD, we'd have AJ and nothing else. I think he deserves one more year to see what he can do with some real coaching and some weapons around. IF he flounders next season then mark my words I will be calling for the Texans to remove him and go after Brady Quinn. What you call tempertantrums on the field I'd call frustration. What you call running out of bounds for a sack to "show up" line man, i call looking up field for one of the bone head receivers to get open. Should he go out of bounds in that regard- no and that is indeed on him. But that VAST majority of his sacks come not from him holding that ball but from the line or RBs not picking up the proper man in the pass blocking scheme - plain and simple.
If people paid attention, they'd notice that whenever David Carr gets sacked, it generally happens within 2 seconds or less. Anyone who watched Texans games consistently would know that he always barely had time to even look down the field and locate a receiver before he got knocked down. And even the receivers have complained publicly that they run their routes but never even get halfway to their destination before the quarterback has been pulverized.
I think that there were an equal amount of times that Carr did not step up into the pocket, instead, he just floundered around in the backfield which lead to the sack. He has shown that he is easily rattled and has little to no composure.
Carr could be much improved next season if he just would throw in the direction of AJ. Andre was more than upset several times last season because he was open and it was going to TE's and backup receivers who can't catch.
After getting sacked over and over again for four years, and setting league records for most sacked quarterback, how can you blame him for being rattled? I'd like to see you take that kind of beating and retain your composure.
3 pages for this thread and 1.5 of them don't have anything to do with Leinart or the Broncos. Quit crapping up threads with the same stuff. If you want to debate the merits of David Carr and all his awesomeness create a thread for that. If you want to marry Vince Young and have his kids do it the proper thread. If anyone wants to continue the discussion of trading with Denver, or Denver "Hot for Leinart" then I'd welcome them to start a new thread. But be warned it will suffer the same fate or worse if aforementions crap continues.
