Does anyone here think that music just plain sucks today. There are a few new things i like out there but overall i thing we are in a lull.

Im hoping one day soon something will happen that will wake everyone up one day and we will see something worthwhile again.

It might be time for us to start the Brittney in Playboy pool. I think it would be safe to assume it would be the best selling magazine ever printed. I'd buy it, even if my wife got mad.

    Ah, where to start...LOL.

Anyhow, it's not much of a shock. She had to have been, uh...'friendly' with someone in order to break up with Timberkid and cause him to make 'Cry Me A River'.

Britney wants a new bloke (from the Herald Sun)

    10jul03

POP princess Britney Spears has her sights set on getting a new boyfriend - and the next one might be Australian.

Spears has admitted that she had sex with former boyfriend Justin Timberlake, despite once vowing to remain a virgin until she wed.
Now she says she is hunting far afield for a new beau -- especially in Australia and Spain, where men are less "fuddy duddy".

When I first read this post I thought she was admitting to a boob job. But once I found out what it was about I was like so what? Everyone knew they did it. You don't go out for 2 years (especially someone like Justin) and not get any.

But there are people here who believe that Justin is gay. So, maybe it WAS an accomplishment for Britney to screw him.:D

    Who are these girls?

By Ann Oldenburg and Karen Thomas, USA TODAY

Is it us, or do stars change images these days at warp speed? Madonna was always the mother of re-invention, but at least she took a couple of years between selves.

Christina Aguilera sports a dark hairdo and a fuller physique on her recent tour.
    AP

This week we're seeing new wow photos of Britney Spears in W magazine. When we last left her, she was a girl, not yet a woman. Now look at her. In black rubber.

And also arriving this week are Christina Aguilera's hot new Versace winter ad campaign photos, appearing in the August Interview. They were taken just months ago, when she was a rail-thin blonde. The look they were after: "A much more mature Christina. Refined," says Versace's Billy Daley. Now look at her, an apple-bottomed brunette.

And then, an ad for Louis Vuitton made us stop and look twice as we were leafing through the new Vanity Fair. Isn't that Jennifer Lopez? Classic. Subdued. Luxe.

Her down-home "Jenny From the Block" image from earlier this year is now Jenny With a Purse — strolling Fifth Avenue. She even dons a Sixties-mod Jackie O suit for ads appearing later this fall.

"Because of the way we communicate and the fact that everything's at a much faster speed, it's about needing to do it so they don't get old," says Barbara Gauthier, image consultant and founder of Gauthier Total Image Spa in Sherman Oaks, Calif. "There's another lovely thing right behind Britney, waiting to take her place."

The W story on Spears addresses the constant pressure recording artists feel to maintain what execs at Spears' label, Jive Records, call Q-factor: the burst of commercial heat at the outset of a singer's career.

Spears, Aguilera and Lopez all had it in spades when they first hit. But as W points out, "pop stars age in dog years" and Spears will have to come up with something new if she's going to be a worthy rival to wildly popular Avril Lavigne.

Lopez was just the "someone that you wouldn't expect" to do a Vuitton ad, designer Marc Jacobs tells London's Daily Telegraph. It's also just the kind of surprise look that keeps J.Lo a hot commodity between projects. "She loved the little Jackie O suit," Jacobs says.

Spears admits she normally wears a youthful look in "tight jeans and the little shirt, whatever." But for now, she was aiming for a more "freakin' girl" and "goddess" look.

Like Madonna, whose image now is as much about kids and a husband as it is about what she wears, Spears says she's through hiding, keeping up the good-girl facade. She lights a cigarette during the interview and shrugs.

"I was never hiding anything," she says. "It was the people around me that were hiding me." Those were probably the same folks keeping secret Spears' big confession in W: That she slept with "one person in my whole life." That guy would be Justin Timberlake.

And it's just the kind of I'm-not-a-virgin confession that works well with a brand-new tough-girl image.

But truthfully, who actually does understand who they are? The vast majority of people are not self aware, so it isn't really any surprise that celebrities aren't either.

Besides, what are the "normal" things to worry about. A family living in a hut in sub-Saharan Africa might look at the average middle-class American families and WISH they would be stuck dealing with such mundane issues.

And with image, I think we all do that. Do you buy clothes that make you look bad or a rusted out car? Does how much you make or your job or your home help define who you are as a person? It could be argued that those are just as superficial.

I'm not disagreeing with you here. I think you have a valid point. Dealing with the distractions of stardom would leave little time for personal reflection. I just think that the average American life doesn't leave much time for that either.

    Jeff-

I see your point. But I think you're taking what I said a little too literal.

"Normal" is subjective, of course. But the majority of "middle-class" families living in America probably have the same general concerns. I'm just talking about the average American life.

No matter what, I would say that "normal" people probably have a better idea of who they are than a celebrity would.

And I don't think that it's not that celebrities don't have the time for personal reflection. I think they just don't care. It's more important for them to keep their "image" no matter what the cost. It seems obvious to me that Britney was not happy keeping this secret (not that she probably felt it should be discussed). However, for the sake of her career at the time, she lived a lie. The life of a celebrity is all about being someone else, at least IMO. They have to appeal to more people than the "average" person does. I can be myself, even if it means losing some friends. But there will be other people who like me...or maybe not. If I don't like myself, I can change that. Celebrities don't have that option (in general). It's more important that the masses like them.

I'm probably babbling on, but I'm not sure how exactly to say what I'm thinking. Perhaps someone else could do it better. At any rate, the whole idea of an image to me is silly. Sure I want people to think certain things about me, like that I'm smart or competent, etc. Clothes and hair and money can't do all of that though. They can make you a star though.
