I'm sure weird people you don't know chasing, annoying, and taking pictures of you would freak all you out too. It's ok when it happens to famous people though.
This IMO is hyperreaction goodness. . . babies were kept in the front seat when I was a kid People act like she was dragging the baby along side the car out the window Heck I doubt anyone over 25 did not have their mom do this at least once Rocket River
I agree with RR. It was a dumb thing to do... But back in the day...I remember our car didn't even have belts in the back seat. (and the more she strays from the record company's fabricated image of uber hot virginal teeny bopper puffery...the more I like her. I hope she goes on to a Madonna-like stereotype-busting career).
maybe we should rethink those it is a whole six in one hand . . half a dozen on the other situation I mean. . . I'm waiting on the Celeb to get bashed for throwing his baby in the air and catching him or Playing Airplane [looping the kid around and a around] All that other dnagerous stuff that happened to us ROCK HARD KIDS of the 70s and 80s Rocket River
I'm not one to baby my kids. I think helmets when you are riding your bike is lame. I chunked my kids all over the place. I understand where you are coming from and there are times where I do not disagree. However, safety in the car is very important. I think seatbelts are essential as are carseats for young children. Airbags are not going anywhere and it doesn't take much for them to be set off. It is something that could easily kill a baby. I do not see how hard it would be to lock your doors, turn around and fasten the baby in the carseat, and then make your get away. Do I think she should go to jail over this? Absolutely not. Sometimes you do things as a parent that when you look back, you wish you had made a different decision. I am not in her shoes and maybe she really felt there was a danger great enough to leave in that fashion. Her kid, her call. I, personally, would have done things differently but maybe looking back so would she.
I totally agree RR, the overreaction is ridiculous. everyone acts like damn super parent when comparing themselves to celebrities. the self righteousness makes me want to vomit.
I am 35 and my parents never let me ride without a seatbelt. Ever. And the Police think otherwise: Police probe Britney baby incident Authorities in the US are investigating after Britney Spears was photographed driving with her baby son on her lap. Police said they would not press charges, but had sent officers to the singer's Malibu home to gather information for the local Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Spears said she had been trying to protect four-month-old Sean Preston from paparazzi photographers. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sergeant Diane Hecht confirmed that deputies went to the pop princess's home, although her representative said they had spoken to her security, not Spears herself. Deputy Luis Castro said the sheriff's department would not pursue any charges. "Unless a deputy saw the violation, there's nothing we can do," he said. "We don't even know if this took place in our jurisdiction." Spears' lawyer, Marty Singer, told the New York Daily News she would "fully cooperate" with authorities "and explain the circumstances". After the photographs emerged Spears defended her actions, saying she had driven with the youngster on her lap because of a "horrifying, frightful encounter" with the paparazzi. A source explained to People magazine that she had driven her SUV to a Starbucks in Malibu with her bodyguard in the passenger seat and Sean in his car seat in the back. When the bodyguard went to get some drinks she took baby Sean from the back seat and the photographers approached the car and became "aggressive". Spears then drove away while still holding Sean, once her bodyguard was back in the car. The pop princess told the magazine: "I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I love my child and would do anything to protect him." © Copyright Press Association Ltd 2006, All Rights Reserved. http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=201522006
I'm sorry, but you don't have to be a "super parent" to know better than to drive with your kid in your lap. Ask the lady whose kid had it's head torn off by an airbag. That happened here in Houston several years ago. I'll try to search the Chron and find the article somehow.
Exactly. Its dumb. Its blatantly jeopardizing the safety of a child, just like leaving them in a car while shopping, leaving them alone at home, etc.
Let me see . . . Joe Crack head is breaking into houses and killing folx. . . but the police are actually wasting time on THIS??? I mean h*ll they have a picture .. . send her a ticket and call it a day What the h*ll are they investigating? The fact that they spent this much time on it irratates me Rocket River
I'm be interested in the odds of the bag coming out an decapatating the baby I mean really. . how often do the bags go out without provocation Rocket River
Oh, really... being in my mid-50's, I didn't wear a seatbelt until I was an adult, and long after I had a TDL and a car. They didn't have them. I remember, as a child, riding in the front seat with my mother, when another idiot ran a red light. I was flung from the front seat into the windshield, bounced off it (the windshield cracked), hit the backrest of the front seat, and was flung into the floorboards. It was a miracle I wasn't killed. I was about 4, and still have a faded scar on my face from it. My sister and I used to crawl under the rear window of our big Ford Fairlane, back and forth between the front and rear seats, and had a great time. No one knew any better. There were not seat belts. Today, people know better, there are smart laws requiring them, and they should be obeyed, whether it's by the Pope, the President, your momma, or you. I don't give a tinker's continental damn about Miss Idiot, Britney Spears. She was breaking the law, and should be given a citation, at the very least. In my opinion.
Rocket River, You do understand the reason why car seat laws and air bags came about don't you? Years of traffic accident data involving kids. In essence, we all lucked out. But in reality several children died actually being the cushion between their parents and the dash/steering whell/windshield. I know what you're saying though, I remember sleeping in the rear window of a 1976 Buick Electra Limited for hours on end... I even remember sitting in my dad's lap on the I-45 Pierce elevated at night in heavy traffic "driving" - but data on these types of accidents changed the laws... not mere opinion, but LAW. But we were blessed to escape certain injury and possible death in the event an accident had happened. Parents in this day should know better.
dude sh*t happens I'm one that thinks. . if someone want to take their chances its their life like the motorcycle helmet law . .. I don't think they should be REQUIRED I some idiot wants to not wear one . .it is his business I think we take these things too far constantly trying to tell folx what is good for them one the one hand we b*tch about Bush wanted into easedrope on everyone. . FOR THEIR PROTECT OF COURSE but in the same breathe don't mind tell Britney what she should do FOR HER PROTECTION OF COURSE I understand why the law is there I think it is a silly invasive law with not other impact excect another reason for police men to hassle you and make money Should it be illegal to put Metal in a MicrowavE? Running with scissors? Bungie Jumping? Rocket River
