Changing Rooms et al get reasonable viewing figures, but people over here tend to view it as "lowest common denominator" TV. Two of my favourite comedies of the past are "Porridge" and "Yes Minister" / "Yes Prime Minister". Do you guys get those?

"Yes Minister" is one of the best British comedies ever written (IMHO). If it's available on DVD or video in the US, I would heartily recommend it. Porridge might be a bit more Brit-centric, but I'm sure the comedy would translate. There's plenty of old US TV that I love though. Top of the my list is probably "The Rockford Files"...
I was surprised how much old US TV was shown on TV all over Europe, including the UK. I was also surprised to hear 'New York, New York' and John Denver's 'Country Roads' at an Octoberfest tent in Munich! Singing John Denver in public is...not very common over here. Maybe it's that lowest common denominator thing again
