Then he who dribbles 15-20sec in every offensive play must have nothing up there to make a conclusion.
why don't we wait and see what our record is at the allstar break before saying what we need or don't need. And people, quit saying that francis is gonna be gone soon. Yao is no where close to being the team leader or go to guy. Once he gains some weight, moxy, and an inside presence then we can start discussing steve's status. Someone should run over his dog or something to piss him off.
I don't think I get it... ... But I think you're at least partially right that dribbles ARE needed most of the time before any gaurd can usually decide what to do with the ball, whether it be pass or shoot.
Yes, We need a true Point guard... 4.7 assist a game for a Starting point Guard who play almost 40 minutes a game is NOT acceptable
What if that starting PG has contributed to his team winning 8 of their first 11 games? It's early, you say? Okay, then wouldn't the same "it's early" statement apply to the wannabe-GMs on this board that insist the team is going nowhere with Francis starting @ the point? It's ealry, the team is winning...please, people, just wait 'til it's clear this team needs to make drastic changes. I don't think any of us can say that @ this point.
I have to say, I love Steve, he is one of my favorite players to wear a Rocket Jersey. But, I do have to agree with this thread. I look at the stats of so many good points in the past, and they have 20/12 ratios. If we had that combined with Yao and a strong powerfoward, we could have the best team in the league. What we need to do is get rid of these contracts. Cato, Norris, and Taylor, all flops on contract signs. Once this happens, we should search for a Forward. In the meantime, move Mobley to the bench and put Steve at SG. I think Steve could possibly be one of the NBA's best SG's. Sorry, for the rant
While Steve Francis is a great athlete, the Rockets seem to be always needing a point guard. Utah lost Stockton to retirement. Is the team losing? No. Who's running the show there? A guy named Carlos Arroyo. And they seem to have an understanding of the team concept, of passing, sharing the ball. The Rockets, though have a winning record, don't usually have a great number of assists in a game. The points come from one on one plays. Sometimes, passes are made. When can Moochie Norris play like Carlos Arroyo or T.J. Ford?
Unfortunately, this team's future is very limited with Steve Francis as its point guard. I say this with all respect to Steve Francis whose great talent, alas, is not at running a team. I hope that Steve can mesh his talent with Yao's. I'm not saying Yao is infallible. He has a long way to go as well. But none of our guards seem capable of getting him the rock. I still think getting NVE might do the trick, if we could finagle a way to 3-way trade, getting expiring contracts and, say, part of the exception, to Golden State (Cat to NY, Ward to GS, that sort of thing?). I want players who want to be here. I want a guard who can pass. Of course, that supposes Steve and NVE could play well together and not freeze out a certain seven-point-six-foot-tall Asian dude. This team as we see it cannot stay intact. I'm not overreacting to one loss. Our defense will not always carry us. Stupidity has cost us two games and nearly lost us a few others, and only our weak schedule has kept us afloat.
You now, I don't see any valuable options out there right now, but I couldn't agree with this thread more. Watching the game against Portland just shed more light on the fact that Steve has no mental ability to run point. Has anyone else noticed that every team that we have played has applied full court press and traps against the Rox, while Steve is in at point? The buzz is out, pressure Steve and he will make mistakes: *making bad passes *dribbling up the side line and getting trapped (picking up his dribble) as soon as he crosses half court *not even making it across half court in eight seconds. And this is the PG of the future? I for one, hate to see the NBA in the future if this is what we should come to expect from a PG. 7 assist in 41 minutes, while you control the ball the majority of the time, while shooting 2 for 9? That is not a respectable line. Grant it, the whole team needs to work on reducing their TOs, but it should all start with the PG. I say again, he does not have the mental ability to run PG. Here is another reason for people staying a full 4 yrs in college. This is why we bicker over what he should and shouldn't be able to do, no fundamentals.
i think steve would be better utilized at the 2 as well. i would love to bring in al harrington to the rockets, so a trade for him and tinsley for mobley and change would be ideal in my opinion.
