Why is everyone here trying to land a great, or even a good PG? The Rockets don't need a GREAT PG to be successful; they just need an average PG, who can make good decisions. The guy may not be a starting PG for other teams, but it's okay for the Rockets. Considering the minutes Moochie has been giving, I don't think it's that hard to find someone better than that. A 2nd tie PG, not a starter. We have enough scoring talent already.

The goal is to take the ball handling & decision making away from Francis & Mobley, so they can concentrate on what they are good at, which is scoring!

Why is age a factor either? I recall us winning a championship with a rookie point gaurd named Cassell.

You didn't get it. Actually, I want Steve to take 20-30 shots a game if he is simply playing shooting guard. What I want is effenicency. It's better to play him as a SG.

I'm starting to lean toward the Steve at SG idea. The way he ran those three 2 on 1 fast breaks against Dallas was just terrible. Maybe JVG will help him, but I'm starting to lose faith in his ability to ever excel at running an offense.

Tonight's game against Suns says again that Steve is great for SG position.

Actually, Kenny Smith was our starting point guard, with Cassel off the bench. Cassell wasn't so much a point guard as a Vinny "Microwave" Johnson-like scorer off the bench.

    Well said...

    A tweener.

But not necessarily a "combo guard" like Isiah or Payton either.

He's an athletic-short SG...which hinders his dominance of he was taller/stronger.

Mobley for Eric Snow; Cat will be good trade bait to pickup a solid PG.

I would be happy with bringing in either Brent Barry or Charlie Ward and they will both be free agents and the end of the year. So we really don't need to trade anyone right now.

    please NOOOO,
i do not want snow, he can't shoot, he can't score, al he does is p-as to iverson and wait.if we trade mobley and francis plays SG we do need a big point guard. but i do not want to trade mobley. he is a verry good player, and he plays like we want him to play, he has had different roles in this team and accepted them all.
we are 6-2 that is verry good, we just beat one of our competition. and still people are saying we should trade, let this team come together, we have a good team

It is better to be quiet and let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

That's bullass*^%$. By this logic, Iverson is a useless runt who will never be a player. Stevie is a player, he just need to hone in his specialty and play ball.

I'm against the idea of trading Mobley for a PG even though he and Francis have somewhat similar skills. Cato has done well for us and we are obviously needing him right now at both the PF and backup C spot. But I would still like to see if we could get Brent Barry for him once Mo gets back and starts playing well.
Barry is a big guard who can play at the point and shoot. He can make things easier for Francis but Mobley would have a harder time adjusting to him being on the team but it might work out.
Yao would be alone by himself at the center spot but he could benefit a lot from getting better passes from Barry.

We traded away our first-rounder in the Amaechi trade, right?

I've thought a lot about acquiring a good backup PG via trade, but lately I've been thinking about trying via draft as well. Then we wouldn't have to give up anyone.

I was going to start a thread in the Draft forum about Chris Duhon, but then I started wondering about our pick status.

    Oh yeah! :D

Brent Barry in place of Moochie!!!! Not for trade. But a free-agent pick-up that just comes in a plays point, or backup.

Gotta love those 6'6" point guards that dish or shoot the three.

Oh, yeah!!! Brent can dunk too. But not like the "bones" he once was.

Barry and Ward can choose to go to any team at the end of the season. Ward will probably be cheaper to get than Barry.

Yes, after the Dallas game you would think the Rockets would need a true PG. Which may be the case. Steve is scorer 1st, scorer 2nd, & passer 3rd,which is fine. Steve moves to the 2 spot and Mobley comes off the bench, which will provide more points off the bench. That is something interesting to consider. "They" said that Cato at the PF spot wouldn't work.
