It must be awesome to judge a man who was found INNOCENT by a jury.
It must be awesome to end his career based on his personal life.
You guys are perfect church going people who never cheated or got a speeding ticket.

What if you were an accountant and you cheated on your wife? will your firm fire you?
oh on top of that, you DIDNT cheat on her. you were found INNOCENT.

    think about it.

I support Calvin, those who don't can support the SPURS.

Its a naive way to think if you believe an employee's personal life and choices should have no affect on his career or his standing with his employer.

what part of INNOCENT is bad?

Michael Jordan cheated on his wife. Ask Nike to drop his products.
Its naive you think Calvin deserves this.

    You are missing the boat.

Bottom line is, employers let employees go everyday, all the time, because of poor personal choices, especially when that employee is a representation of the face of the company.

Didn't alot of Kobe's advertisers drop him?

How well do you know Calvin Murphy??? Have you met him?
Have you been to one of his basketball camps or schools?
Have you witnessed first hand some of the things this man has done for the community and its children???
The good this man has done for many far outweighs any personal mistakes he may have made.
IMO The Rockets firing Calvin is an embarassment to the organization.

*sarcasm*how about we take calvins banner down from the rafters???*sarcasm*

I always liked Calvin, I thought he was a bit crazy in the head sometimes, but he was entertaining mostly and only occasionally irritating to me, unlike most commentators. Insightful, energetic, home-grown, and actually a fan.

That said, I agree with whoever said "I don't see why you are all surprised about this."

It's about TV revenues. Are Clyde and Bull going to be better? Probably not, but potentially boring people, and potentially offending them, are two different things. My guess is that they are more willing to take a chance on boring than offending.

Hagedorn got canned too, and I don't know he did anything at all. This was related to FOX I believe, and for all we know, Calvin's move involved pressure from such media as well. Conglomerates like that aren't concerned about anything but ratings, and you can bet they conducted focus groups of some sort to get a feel for this. Just my opinion...

I personally think that he should have his job back, but I won't pretend not to understand the decision, or make something personal of it on Les's part.

I was impressed with Calvin's demeanor on the news and on 610 that day, though, and I do think he'll land on his feet in broadcasting somewhere.

Will we ever know what kind of guy he really is? Probably not. But he's been a great part of the rockets family, and acknowledging that might have to be enough.

I sincerely hope the comment about unretiring his jersey is false. That would be a colossal mistake.

The "other people do bad things too" argument is not that convincing. Just because other people do bad things and aren't punished doesn't make it unfair to punish someone in a highly-visible position for behaving in a way that the Rockets don't want to be associated with. An organization can (although, as the examples pointed out show, sometimes don't) ask for more than non-criminality in its public representatives--that's a pretty low bar.

I actually think he could end up back with the Rockets. I think the Rockets/Fox are giving him a "time out" so to speak (ala Marv Albert).

The comment about unretiring his jersey was blown out of proportion. It came from one of the 610 guys who basically said "im suprised that the Rockets aren't considering unretiring his #". It was his opinion and was based on no way on any type of inside information.

i dont understand the debate. he's INNOCENT by a court of law.

The argument is fair. If person A gets canned for his personal life, why does person B who is also a public person still have his job?

Marv Albert still has a job. He's also a NBA COMMENTATOR who was on trial for personal reasons.

If Calvin was guilty, there would be no argument. He'll be in jail.

We're talking about about 35 years with the Rockets. If Les can't respect that or at least let the fans decide, then I hope we get a new owner.
Les for your terrible treatment of Rudy and Calvin, I consider you the new Bud Adams.

    I agree with this.

IF you stop watching the games because of who is calling them...you arent much of a fan.

I dont agree with the decision...I also want Calvin to come back...but there are very few things that can keep me from watching the games...and even then, that is why recorders were invented.

As much as it would be nice if they reversed their decision...I dont see it happening unless the entire city rose up and complained....and you know that aint happening, there aren't enough people that can overlook the moral aspect of Calvin's personal life(me...I dont care how many kids he has or how many women he has slept with)

    Just face facts folks....

Im still goin to watch the Rockets.

but i'm still going to be pissed about Calvin not coming back.
Maybe us Calvin fans can make some noise on a national broadcast
with some "BRING CALVIN BACK" posters or something.

    Who's down with me?

Similarly, who would stop watching games because he WAS broadcasting?

I don't see it has having much to do with him being the 'face of the franchise'. Players are much more prominent/visible than an announcer. As was alluded to before, had Murphy been the team's best player, instead of the announcer, he would still have his job.

Thanks codeII for being a voice of reason.

And everyone should just realize, times change. It's not as if Murph was out and out dropped "just because."

Perhaps Les' worst fears came true, involving what he knew may happen the first time he dropped Murph. Murph's past became public.

I had a blast watching the games and hearing and seeing Murph during the Hakeem years the most anyway. Now let someone be the voice of the Yao years.

Hey, someone said Bullard was dull? Dull doesn't come in 2nd on the ESPN show.

Give Bull a chance. Give Glyde a chance. Move forward into the Ming Dynasty.

Sorry, I have heard enough of them. Worst color commentators in the game
    B-O-R-I-N-G
I'll listen to the Chinese commentators instead. Maybe I can pick up some Chinese in the process.

Gene Petersen seems to have escaped the wrath of Le$. However, given the opportunity, I'm sure he wouldn't mind following through on the elimination of Jim Foley.

CLARIFICATION - What I was saying was that Calvin 1) had sex with lots of women and 2) He has lots of rugrats due to his actions. I was NOT SAYING that Calvin had sex with kids.

Definitely interested seeing what else you disagree with in my post Glyde. I just hate it when people get all rightous and judgemental on some folks and don't apply the same standards across the board.
