Not the only one, but you are definitely in the minority. Calvin's schtick wore a bit thin sometimes, but few people can take issue with the quality of his on-the-fly basketball analysis. Very few hoops broadcasters -- especially among local guys -- have more basketball knowledge than Calvin, or the ability to articulate it as well. Besides, who wore better pimp outfits than Calvin? No one. Hell, sometimes Murph was just a wild hat and a switchblade away from hoeing out the Power Dancers. [j/k] There was an earlier petition, and I signed it. I'll sign another one and even help with some graphics work for the "save calvin" site, if it's going to come to fruition. Marv has been brought up, and he lost his court case. And what about local Channel 13 weatherman Ed "Caught with Cocaine and Hookers" Brandon? He got his job back after a year and a half or so. Calvin is a Houston basketball fixture and should be brought back, IMHO.
Maybe we can create some press for this by having a bring back Calvin Murphy party. We could invite the chron and some of the TV. Someone should organize this....

Sorry, not true. I saw pictures of the woman's back. He actually did some pretty serious damage. Not that rises to the level of molesting children. However, Calvin was acquitted. I don't rememebr what the jury found in Marv's case, but I believe he was found guilty. And besides, whoever above said that Marv is good - I also say, sorry, not true. The guy sucks. He is only slightly less irritating than Dick Vitale. Marv is a total jockrider. If I never have to hear hom say YESSS! again in my life, it will be too soon.

I agree completely. The organization better care what fans think, or they'll lose advertising dollars because the sportscasts won't be heavily watched. Remember when Less tried to get rid of Calvin the first time? Why do you think we got him back? There was an outpouring of support for Calvin, and people were angry about the changes, so they had to bring him back. I hope the same will happen again; however, I wonder wether the moral higherarchy that seems to think he's a "bad person" won't be so powerful as to outweigh the majority of fans who think firing Calvin was a bad decision. Let's hope that the voice of the masses wins out. I, for one, plan to continue emailing and calling Fox Sports.

For all of you guys that are coming down so hard on Calvin, you all need to stop watching the NBA (and all other pro sports) all together. It's the Freakin NBA and a majority of players sleep with women all over the country. If you think that Calvin should be fired from the Rockets, why don't you back it up and not watch any games that Shaq plays in. After all, he fathered a couple of kids (one in Houston). Oh yeah, and be sure to avoid all of Kobe's games too (enuff said there). And don't forget about that Michael Jordan guy. He should never be allowed to work in the NBA again. Calvin had sex with different women and a number of kids. My understanding is that he still provided support for them (and none of them looked like they were going hungry when they were on TV). If he did not, we do have a child support system set up in all of the states in the US. Bottom line is that Calvin was fun to watch and the chemistry he has with Bill cannot be replicated. He does a ton of stuff for the community and the kids. I still remember him coming to my elementary school when in 1980 and signing autographs in the cafeteria. He has always had time to take a picture with a fan at the game or sign an autograph and he often stays well after the broadcast is over to chat with folks. He is the best fit for the job and anyone that is too moral too watch him can boycott the NBA for employing too many bad role models. (I can't believe I agree with Tinman on something).

I highly doubt that a serious Rocket fan is going to stop watching the games because Calvin is no longer broadcasting. I mean, the Rockets suffered no loss of fans when Rudy was let go and as far as we know, he was actually a good father, unlike Calvin.
I dont care if Calvin was a good father or husband or fashion expert. He was the BEST COLOR COMMENTATOR AND DID FOR A HUNDRED YEARS. Rudy was let go cause we didn't make the playoffs. TV commentary isn't a volatile job in the NBA. Chick Hearn for the Lakers (before he died) was screwing up big time, calling Shaq "Kareem" and Walton "Rambis". He didn't get screwed over like Calvin. Hey Kobe Bryant cheated on his wife. He's not a good husband, why didnt the Lakers drop him? Marv Albert bit a woman. Ron Artest beat up a fan. He'll get his job back. Magic Johnson has AIDs by cheating on his wife. Worthy had call girls. Barkley threw a dude through a window. I'm a REAL ROCKETS FAN. I STAND BY CALVIN.
