nobodys perfect? I said there is a difference between a guy cheating on his wife and a dead beat dad x 14. People do dumb things but the issue here is severity.
People who live in communism are not bad people. Yet communism is frowned upon by us. It is looked upon as an opposition to our values and ideals. The same logic could be applied to Calvin. Where he comes from-ghetto-he is not looked upon as a horrible father. It is very common for people to have illegitimate children with different wives. To the rest of America he is an unethical human being. My point is that society and its values change with time. If Calvin was living in the 18th century he would be a normal person. Our most famous presidents were racists. Were they horrible people? There are plenty of famous and successful people who have committed immoral acts. Yet, they get a chance to me famous and successful by utilizing their talent and skills. The issue concerning Calvin is not whether he is a righteous person. He is not. That does not translate into him being a bad human being. Bottomline is: He is the best at what he does. He is extremely talented. He is a performer. He is exciting. He makes games that much more exciting. Let him showcase his skills and talent. He also happens to be VERY POPULAR with most Rockets fans. Did people stop listening to heavy metal artists during the 80's because they were high on drugs and they had sex with multiple women? Earlier I mentioned how we-as a capitalist country-hate communism. We have a free market system where the price is decided by demand and supply. Well, Calvin is in HIGH DEMAND. In our capitalistic spirit and our forgiving mood we should allow him to be the Rockets color commentator and make Rockets games the envy of the league.
I thought Jeff Hadgedon was doing a pretty good job. Calvin Murphy was great too. How come fan favorite is letting go?
Who really cares...seriously. I got kind of tired of his schtick anyway. I like Drexler also, eventhough is speaks horribly and is a failed and quitter as a coach (UH). The best thing off all is Cynthia Cooper is off the half-time and post-game shows. She was horrible.
In a capitalistic spirit, FOX is underestimating Calvin's popularity and the extra fans that he draws with his charisma and passion. Worrell will drag even the most exciting game in the gutter. He is very bland and unemotional. He needs somebody who is passionate next to him. Bullard will put you asleep. And the only reason you would listen to Chancellor is to see where he would screw up next ---->Beell, I have a Maf Degree from Mississippeeeee. Listen to a Rockets game post Calvin and compare them to the rest of the league. Listen to Kevin Calabro of the Sonics(he did the Spurs series too), or Kevin Harlan, Ian Eagle (Nets) and you will end up glued to the game even though you don't like any of the teams who play. The commentary doesn't affect my loyalty or enthusism as a Rockets fan, but it would sure be a hell of a lot more exciting if Bullard/Drexler and Worrell weren't doing the games. They are great guys, but they are BORING. Les has a TV contract with FOX. Fox is in charge of hiring their people. Les has nothing to do with it
ABC 13 in Houston is about to talk about Calvin and said that Calvin has responded to the decision...TUNE IN NOW!!! (EDIT) Recap... They made it sound like Calvin was actually on camera saying something...Bob Allen just said that he spoke with Calvin a few weeks ago and Calvin told him he did not expect to be back. Calvin never heard from the team during his trial, and on the day he was acquitted he was at the Rockets game, passed by Les, and all Les said was "hello" and kept walking.
from what i gather so far, this has little to do with being "very much in the public eye" or having "such a public job" (see: albert, marv) and has more to do with a personal thing that les has with da moyph.
Just admit it, as soon as anyone ever makes it into the media with something negative, Les tries to trade them or Replace them. See: Griffin, Eddie. Taylor, Mo. Murphy, Calvin. Francis, Steve.(the superbowl thing).... GIVE SOME OF THEM ANOTHER CHANCE BRING BACK MURPH.
That is the most Ignorant and Racist comment I have ever heard on these boards. While it may be more common among affrican americans in low income situations it doesnt mean the communities dont look down upon it. Your compaison to communism assumes that the people in that community beilive their beliefs are the "right" ones. But if u went into these "ghettos" and told the people there that they think it's ok for men to abandon their children you would get punched in the face. Second, your logic assumes we can't make moral judgements on others because there might be a few people or a community that think the action is ok. While there is no clear fine line on what is moral and what isnt MOST can agree that things like murder and rape are wrong. I'm not comparing what he did to murder or rape, I'm merely trying to show that we have to be able to judge morality regardless of the beliefs of a few. In this case abandoning your responsobility as a father...NINE TIMES I beilieve is immoral. I'm sorry to take this discussion in this direction but if we don't correct assumptions like this they are bound to get out and hurt someone. SORRY FOR BEING SO SERIOUS!!!
My comment was not racist. It's a fact. It is very immature and judgmental of you to draw such a conclusion. Murder and rape are illegal and immoral. You wouldn't by any chance compare Calvin's relationship with his children to murder, would you? Why is it a crime to not want to be a father? Even, if he was willing to father his children, how would you suppose he would take care of 15 children? If you are not emotionally and financially fit to be a father, you shouldn't be a father. No father is better than an unfit one.
It may be more common in those "ghettos" but the conclusion that you draw that those affrican american communites don't look down on it is just ignorant. 2nd I specificaly said I'm not saying what he did was as bad as murder but since we can conclude that some things are immoral you can't say we can't make moral judgements about less severe issues because there might be some who say it's not that big a deal. In simple terms, you said poor affrican americans don't mind men who abandon their families and i don't think you can find one person in that demographic that would agree with you. Lastly just because calvin may not want to be a father he has above all a genetic responsobility. those kids wouldnt be there if not for him. THe guy made a lot of money in the NBA and even with all that if he couldnt support those kids he should of thought of that before he was having unprotected sex. While it might not be a crime he shouldnt expect to be a public figure
I don't see why there's surprise. The Color Guy for the announcing crew is a very visible job - no one wants to employ someone who has had such a negative public incident like the trial, and the admission that he fathered Shawn Kemp-like numbers of illegitamite children and pretty much ignored them.
You said that poor african americans don't mind men who abandon their families. Why are you putting words in my mouth? You made that inference. I said that Calvin's situation is a lot more common in the ghetto so it's not considered an extraterrestrial act to have illegitimate children-it's a common occurence. Genetic responsibility? Are you kidding me? Which governmental or religious law says that? You are saying that this comes down to unprotected sex, because that's what brought the children. Then we shouldn't scorn Calvin for a being a bad father--he never wanted to be one--we should reprimand him for not using condoms
holy cryin out loud, gene! according to this source, calvin made almost 7 beeellions dollars over his career!!! http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/murphca01.html (scroll bottom)
this is what you said, "Where he comes from-ghetto-he is not looked upon as a horrible father." I'm not changing anything you said. You didnt just point out it's more common there you said he IS NOT looked at as a horrible dad. Your comment is very ignorant and I wish you could see that so you don't make the same mistakes when you catagorize minorities like that. And i don't think we need a law that says exactly how a father should act. THe law goes as far as saying a Respobsobility does exist when fathers have to pay child support. We shoudlnt need a church or a goverment to verify immorality and in many cases goverments shouldnt even be involved.
OK.. how bout we stop w/ the racist stuff though that was an ignorant comment.. but still. We need to email everyone and give them a tough time and email the chronicle so either way if calvin gets hired or not (probably wont) he'll see all the fan support in the paper like when the JVG thing happened.
Calvin was proven Innocent. PERIOD! who cares about his private life? I dont care if Calvin had 100 kids with 100 women or if he was gay. Calvin brings his soul and passion and his loyalty to the Rockets and to the Rockets fans are second to none. To get dropped like this is a disgrace. I hate Les Alexander.
