This has to do with all of you saying he has been a horrible defensive coach.

The players on this team are not as talented as some of you make them out to be.

Since coming to Houston Rick has yet to field a healthy team. I don't mean completely healthy cause that's impossible. Facts are the guys getting paid the most on this hasn't been there for Rick Adelman. T-mac and Yao, and now just Yao.

Van Gundy wouldn't take this team anymore. You're kidding yourself if you think so.

Here is the DRtg rating (points allowed per 100 possessions). The Rockets defense is declining at a fast rate.

    2010-11 Adelman 109.4
    2009-10 Adelman 108.0
    2008-09 Adelman 104.0
    2007-08 Adelman 101.6
    2006-07 JVG 100.7
    2005-06 JVG 103.3
    2004-05 JVG 101.7
    2003-04 JVG 99.0
    2002-03 Rudy T 102.6

Gundy had one of the most untalented teams ever, in one of the most injury plagued seasons I have ever seen. I mean we were just pathetic, but we played hardnosed defense like a mother****er. Mind you, this is before we got Shane, and way before Rick got his hands on Artest, who Gundy never got to coach.
Gundy+Shane+Ronald would have been a sight to see. Hold teams to 50 total points?

    2005

    Opp PTS/G: 91.7 (4th of 30)
    Def Rtg: 103.3 (6th of 30)

    RAFER ALSTON
    JUWAN HOWARD
    DEREK ANDERSON
    DAVID WESLEY
    STROMILE SWIFT
    LUTHER HEAD
    KEITH BOGANS
    RICHIE FRAHM
    JON BARRY
    STEPHEN GRAHAM
    CHUCK HAYES
    LONNY BAXTER
    DIKEMBE MUTOMBO
    JOHN LUCAS
    RICK BRUNSON
    RYAN BOWEN
    MACIEJ LAMPE

Sure, the offense sucked, but If you can get this motley group of DLeague scrubs to play defense, the group we have now should at the very least be in the top half of the league in defense.

I miss the days of 72-69 wins. I miss the days where every single trip down the floor was of the utmost importance. The ball was gold.

If a team scored twice in a row, there was an immediate timeout, and GUNDY WAS FURIOUS. I miss that, and I strongly dislike Adelman's whining.

"YOU HAVE GOT TO GET MAD!"

The main problem with our defense is that we have players out there that would rather flop then play true defense... "I will take a charge instead of trying to actually stop the guy"

Van Gundy would fix a lot of those fundamentals.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that a big part of JVG staff wont be with him if a second stint were to happen ....

That's one weird taste. Just looking at the roster makes me sick. Also, do not forget how that ****y team wasted the best years of their young superstars in Yao and TMAC.

Well luck also has to play a factor.

Getting matched up with Utah, twice. (let's face it, they pretty much owned us since Deron Willams played)
Getting jobber during the dallas serious.

I actually think the earlier Tmac/Yao was quite successfully but had some luck issues.

Exactly. He would hate almost every player on this team. Brooks, Martin, and Scola would get no PT because they can't play D.

Brooks and Martin would get called out by Gundy after every game.

Gundy wouldn't know what to do with this team. We have too many one way players.

I dont think you can describe the ENTIRE defense using this stat alone.

I dunno, during broadcasts JVG is constantly praising Daryl Morey and the job he has done.

I read somewhere here that, at the time, DM really wanted to keep JVG, any truth to this?

Firing Van Gundy was the right move. It is starting to look like the real mistake was hiring Adelman instead of putting Thidobeau. A couple of people here I think suggested it (I thought it was a bad idea and was clearly wrong).

I think a time bomb needs to be set to RA. Either he gets this team to at least a 500 record before 30 games or he goes into early retirement.

Van Gundy PICKED alot of those players. Had Van Gundy taken advantage of the draft, we'd have had young prospects available to call up from the d-league. But since JVG never gave young players a chance (outside of Luther Head) he chose to get older and less talented.

    Aaron Brooks
    Carl Laundry
    Chase Budinger
    Ish Smith

Those are all late rounders who would've NEVER got any pt under JVG (especially Chase). You cant say "JVG didnt have the talent" and not mention how JVG never developed talent. He was a defensive minded coach with NO OFFENSIVE scheme.

Adelman wins...Give it up fellas
