Retarted? How is it retarted to bring a guy that can score, bring fans to Toyota Center, play with passion and heart every night, Make this team exiting again cuz even if the Francis days are gone those days were exiting to see this team dunk here and there plus they were a good team on last year francis was here and we still have Yao and now T-Mac along with Battier. Not trying to get Francis back is retarted and not wanting Francis back after wishing James came back who is not as good as Francis and are the same kind of players. Thats Retarted.
How awesome would it be if we could bring back Buck Johnson. Think of everything he brings to the table. Man, that wold be sweet
How 'bout we Sign Patrick Ewing to a 1 Year contract and try and trade him. That sounds as effective as getting Francis.
what was exciting about watching steve dribble the ball for 20 seconds then shoot a jump shot? I agree he is a better player than Mike James, but Mike James fits our style of play. Steve does not. I do wish him luck in NY, though...he has heart and some skills. and LOL at Buck Johnson...the most worthless player ever
I always defend Francis because he was a great player here in Htown and people have forgotten how hard he played for us when we were at our lowest, he was there fighting and sticking up for Yao and Fans show him no love. I think Francis would make this team better cuz cmon we are asking for a pass first guy that can shoot and score so we are asking for Nash or as good as Nash? it not like we are in the best position to be carefully picking the best player at the position so take what you can for this team and I know we not geting Francis but why diss the guy for leaving it all on the floor with Htown.
Seriously, if we are in win now mode, with the talent thats available out there, bringing Francis back is the best move to do. We would still have our TE and MLE for other players, namely Korver(TE) and Jared Jeffries/Cato(MLE). We have to take a chance on soemthing because right now, the team is looking for surefire players and there are no more of those available.
As much as i love stevie he would disrupt the flow. The age for guards with his skill set are gone. Iverson was able to adapt by learning to catch and shoot but steve and guys like stephon will never win because of the way they play. He cant rolls off screens unless we want to turn tmac in to rip hamilton and have steve driblle while mac runs around or feed it to yao. But that isnt utilizing the strentghs.
I am not suggesting that this would be a good or possible move, but having a starting 5 of Francis, TMac, Battier, Anyone, and Yao sounds insane. Not to mention Francis eats up the minutes so the trade wouldn't kill our depth as much as one would think. Also this would finally be a buy low sell high situation for us. Alston looks like a good distributor who has been known to shoot better than last year. Howard still has good raw numbers despite his pathetic true impact on the court. Sura as an expiring contract might be the best use of him as an asset since microfracture surgery has been known to make players a shadow of their former selves. Francis is at an all time low even though I think he still has plenty of game left. He would do much better in Houston than that thing they try to pass of as a pro team in New York. That said we would have 3 max contracts at around 15M each. Thats 45M by itself and the luxury tax is 65.4M. So we have 20M left for up to 12 roster spots. TMac $16,901,500 Yao $12,375,000 Francis $15,070,000 Battier $5,285,714 Head $1,048,800 Bowen $998,967 Hayes $664,209 Charlie Ward $2,043,600 (GDammit JVG) Mutombo $2,160,000 This brings us up to $56,547,790. This leaves $8,872,210 for 7 roster spots. Lets say we get Novak for $800k and John Lucas III for $500k. Baxter would be a backup PF/C for maybe $500k. 4 roster spots left, $7,072,210 to spend. Lets just leave one open since this post is hurting my head. 3 roster spots. In need of 2 PG/SG types and 1 SF/PF. How about Scott Padgett for the SF/PF at 1M. Get David Wesley for maybe 1M for a PG/SG. We then have about $5M left which is about the MLE. Sign the best SG available (maybe Fred Jones). Yao/Mutombo/Baxter Battier/Hayes/Baxter/Padgett TMac/Battier/Novak/Padgett/Bowen Jones/TMac/Head/Wesley Francis/Lucas/Wesley So this proves the point that its doable. That starting 5 is easily the best in the league. After that the team is very thin but there are a lot of hard workers that could overachieve. The team could be even better if Les would go over the luxury tax level, but we all know the answer to that one.
Francis is virtually untradeable. The only acceptable scenario would be Zeke conceding Francis has an albatross of a contract and agrees to cut his losses by waiving him on the basis that the Rockets sign him for the full MLE to 3yrs.
as much as i hated the decisions he made on court.... i can still recall a young yao and francis taking it to a shaq/kobe lakers (in their prime) and the lakers having no answers. BRING FRANCHISE HOME and FIRE VAN GUNDY, MOREY, and DAWSON!!!
If you ever became a GM for the Rockets, guy who made thead, we'd be in a worse position than the new york knicks.
Yugo yu obviously have no clYUU. Francis would free up t-mac and yao and even battier and novak. at the 2 francis might have problems defending but hey.. he's there to score and draw defenders. besides, players like kobe and lebron will always get theirs. and we could always throw battier at kobe. most of all... Francis loved Houston and playing with Yao. He plays with intensity and has the heart and skills. sometimes his brain shorts out but we have plenty of players who can clean up after him.
So we should take a player with an inflated contract, no real position, bad basketball IQ, separation anxiety from his sweetheart in LA, and a history of clashing with authority just so you can get your "lets remember the most boring period of Rockets basketball ever" fix?
Bash Francis all you want and praise Tmac all you want. Bottome line is.. both of them gave us the same results, first round exit. He may not be a good fit for current rockets team, but hey.. it looks pretty sweet on a paper. PG - Francis SG - Tmac (Playing situational O & D with Battier) SF - Battier PF - Howard C - Yao Ming 2 Super stars, 1 former allstar, one of the best role players in the league, and experienced PF who can knock down Jump Shots. How can we bring Francis to Rockets? That i dont know..
I find it amaizing that members of this Forum , who are supposed to be Fans of the Houston Rockets would suggest such an idea as bringing Steve Francis back to the Team. Francis had his chance when we selected Yao Ming. He refused during games to support the development of Yaos game, he had selfish motives that were not condusive to the team game of basketball. The Houston Rockets will not improve to a championship level till CD and JVG are gone and Morey learns a thing or two.-[two to four years ] NB I do wish it was otherwise!
A few things: 1) Who cares how JVG and Stevie get along? I have never worked a job or played on any sports team where the boss/coach required that we all love him. These guys get paid lots of money so they should act professionally (that does go both ways though so no more SB appearances for the Franchise). Anyhow, what gives anyone here the indication that JVG will be coaching this team beyond this season? The NBA has passed JVG by. His style of play worked when the NBA was a grind it out physical game in the 90's but anyone watching the playoffs could see where the league is heading. 2) The Rockets are one of the few teams w/out a billionaire owner who should be going over the luxury tax level. We have the components to win and winnng combined with marquee players equals mucho dinero via marketing to recoup the losses from the luxury tax. 3) The way the NBA is heading, you have got to have athletes on the perimeter. If, as it seems the organization has said, the window for this team to win a title is 3-4 years then you have to go balls out NOW. The Rockets have tried it JVG's way and it has not worked (any better than Rudy's). 4) Trading for Steve would basically cap us out for the next few years, but it would also put us in the position of only needing to add complimentary pieces. James Thomas, Marcus Fizer, Cato, Ken Johnson, and I am sure many others would go from being major liabilities to serviceable players ona winning team with the offensive fire-power that a TMac-Yao-Stevie team would have. 5) Yetti has severe envy of Steve Francis. Apparently, the Abominable Snowman only surfaces to throw barbs at the Franchise. I think he might have hidden feelings for the man that have shaken him to his core.
