    Robert Horry.....
    • was a superb help and on-the-ball defender by his 2nd year in the league
    • consistently hit the big shot right away in his career
    • has decent form on his 3 pt shot
    • threw a towel in Danny Ainge's face (this is a home run, not a strike)
    • was never involved in criminal activities that endangered the lives of others
Robert Horry and Eddie Griffin are simply not comparable. Eddie Griffin is more comparable to Dan Langhi (who was another favorite of yours).

Agreed, but my point is that people are giving up on a 23 year old kid, and he still has a lot of time to mature.

Hell Barkley spit on a little girl, threw a guy through a plate glass window and got in several fights....we still think he is ok.

Professional sports is too big of a business to be taking chances on guys like Griffin. We have already gotten burned by the guy and got burned more than once.

I mean all you have to do is read subtomic's post. It summarized things perfectly.

Those who are really jonesing for this loser need to wait about 5 years. If he is still around in the league (which is highly unlikely) and serviceable, then you may have more of an argument for bringing him back.

While I do agree with DD's comments of how Eddie Griffin is exactly the type of powerforward the Rockets need, I do not believe his attitude is what the Rockets need. He is great at shot blocking and can rebound the ball as Swift does but also has the ability to hit the outside shots and three point shots. He is young and is tall which also makes it a plus. The problem is his offcourt activities that seem to hinder any chance of truly reaching his full potential. I doubt that the time in jail will improve his basketball skills. I really would hate it if we were on a winning streak and then given the news that he would have to serve some time in jail. Imagine the affect of the team chemistry. If he could only and truly mature and stop getting into all these messes I would love for a guy of his potential and current caliber to be our starting powerforward.

While I agree with your sentiments, at that point he probably would not be a bargain.

I am looking at the low risk, high return potential........nothing more.

Only in that Barkley was a very immature young man, much like EG.....

The HUGE difference here is that Barkley was always dedicated to the game of basketball. Eddie Griffin's problems have been evident in every facet of his life. He has been irresponsible as a basketball player and a human being. If it is one or the other, people tend to be more forgiving, but what we're talking about is a kid who got handed an oppurtunity most people could never even dream of and threw it straight down the toilet. Also, most of the actions by people like Charles Barkley and Robert Horry are things people can relate to more easily. Many men have gotten into fist fight or thrown something at one time or another. Perhaps it would be a stretch to say that most men have gotten a woman pregnant outside of marriage, but most men at least have a friend who has. These are actions people understand. People do not as easily understand beating and shooting at a woman. Nor do they understand just not showing up to the job in which you get paid millions of dollars to do.

Is it really so hard for you to understand why Eddie Griffin is very easy to hate?

My favorite comment here has been "Forgetting to set your alarm clock is a stupid mistake, shooting at someone goes a bit beyond a stupid mistake."

I'd add that even missing a team flight to attend the Super Bowl could be classified as a stupid mistake, but shooting at someone? Good lord. What would he have to do for you to draw the line, Dada? Does he need to actually kill someone? Is that sufficient? Or would he have to go all out Jeffrey Dahmer on us?

The Rockets would be in a better position today had they not WASTED 3 first round draft picks on this guy. This team would be in far better shape had our GM not been channeling Wes Unseld for the past 10 years. This team's talent problems are due to stupidity and ineptness on the part of those at the top of the organization. As such, there is no easy way out of this mess. If the Rockets are to get better, then they need to be about the business growing some brains and finding good players and not about revisiting old mistakes.

I loved "Fast Eddie" but his ship has long sailed (which is sad seeing how young he is).

He fired several shots in the general direction of her departing car. That the prosecutor did not pursue attempted murder suggests to me that they were not meant to hit her (he didn't even hit the car), but to scare her.

Al Queda made several terroist threats in the general direction of the United States. That the UN did not pursue Al Queda suggests to me that they did not mean to harm the US (they didn't even hit the White house), but to scare the US.

Makes almost as much sense as what you just wrote.

the prosecutor dropped charges because there wasn't enough evidence proving that he shot at her, rather than in the air.

In reading this thread I am reminded of Droxford's post from the Love Hurts thread in the Hangout. Allow me to edit it a little.

Well..... in that context, I'm not encouraging people to keep nude pictures of Eddie Griffin. Hopefully you don't have nude pictures of Eddie Griffin at all.
