Yeah, then he complains about his touches...come on...at least be honest. If healthy, he has a lot of changes to make in the type of game he is comfortable playing. This is team ball...where everyone shares in the responsibility.....and it is beautiful. DD
That was more frustration in he's own body that resulted in those comments. also he actually tried really hard to fit in the offense, but he's body would'nt allow him. i think he'll be fine
You're right, DD. It is about team ball. Shared responsibility. The Rockets could not afford that approach before Rick Adelman became coach, and Daryl Morey became general manager. It makes no sense to share responsibility with people who can't own up to their end of it. Most people have clamored and cried for better play from Yao Ming or Tracy McGrady. And that's true. Both of them are very good players, but they both have things that they can improve on. Sharing responsibility with Luther Head and Stromile Swift and Juwan Howard and whoever the heck else was masquerading in a Rockets uniform the past few seasons, doesn't make any more sense than it would to wear kerosene underpants into hell to protect against the chill down there. You may be surprised, DD, at how much easier it is for good players to share the ball and the responsibility with good players....
Very rarely does he complain. And frankly, as another poster made a comment, he didn't have good teammates to share the ball with. T-mac has been a team player for many many years. He came back early to help the team, not hurt it. And when he made a mess, he took himself out and did what he had to do. But even when he first arrived in Houston, JVG had to chide him to be more assertive and focus on taking his shots vs. trying to fit in. The guy wants to be the good guy, not a villian. I think you will see that a healthy t-mac will fit in. Just as he did when he returned 2 years ago and helped the team launch upon a 22 game winning streak - the last time he was healthy. That's the T-mac I expect when he finally returns. Last year's t-mac was wounded t-mac.
everybody has to adjust to brooks now with the way he's playing. tmac, yao, or whoever we plug in. dude is running the show.
Good point. Did you guys see Ariza attempt to dribble and create his own shot? *FACEPALM*. It's going to be great to see T-Mac do the dribbling and playmaking instead, so Ariza can drain threes at a high %. Speaking of which, those that were questioning Ariza's ability to hit threes are probably hiding right now.
on one play, ariza tried to dribble the ball and just lost it without any pressure from the guy who guarded him. i was like, "wow." he's never going to develop handles that are necessary to make him an elite scorer. it's not going to happen. i guess the coaches are letting him try different things, but eventually he'll settle into the role of just playing off of other guys (as he has been doing for the most part).
i watch their games. he doesn't even look to shoot when he has the ball. he only shoots when he's open (and he's missing). if you play with good players, you're more willing to pass. the point is tracy is going to fit in just fine and dandy. when we play the better defensive teams that force us to play half-court, tracy will help us out tremendously.
some bad news.. not sure whether this has been posted.. but still.. David Alridge says this in his article on nba.com http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/david_aldridge/11/02/aldridge.mmpg/
It could be that he is just not ready to explode yet and is still worried about it, can't really blame him..... Even Grover said he still had some mental issues to get through, sounds like he still does. Let's hope he gets into practice and he learns to trust his own knee again. DD
what? nothing is mentioned about any mental "issues" in that article.. at least i did not see anything.
Sorry just my read on the situation........ He has plenty of explosion jumping off the knee as he was going up the stairs last night one at a time. But that doesn't mean he trusts his knee to go ALL OUT.....which is what I was refering to......even Grover said he still was pampering the knee a bit. Maybe also, when Adelman said he needs to fight through it this year, and avoid a situation like last year this is what he means. I imagine (Yes guess) that Tmac is a bit afraid of going all out on the knee and honestly who could blame him. He has to prove to the team and more importantly himself that the knee will not explode on him when he goes FULL THROTTLE. That is what I think is going on in the article above.... No proof just guess work. DD
thanks for the clarification , DD... I was wondering what happened.. and Yes..you might be correct. Dorsey also said that Mac is "favoring" his knee.. I think he is a lil afraid to go all out so quickly.. I think he will be back in January.. just a guess..
