I've already made the decision to go see it. I love Wiig on SNL and the movie has several other really funny women in it. As for the man card, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've always felt that the idea of the "man card" was just for insecure men who need to feel better about themselves.
I know the main characters are all female and it's bridesmaids (duh) but I don't think it has much to do with a chick flick. More in the vein of The Hangover-style comedy except with women. And it's got Wiig, Rudolph, and Apatow produces so it's got reputable comedic talent in it. BTW Lorne Michaels rates Wiig in his top 3-4 SNL cast members ever. NYT Kind of shocking, maybe he was caught up in singing her praises, but obviously he thinks highly of her. Target lady was awful though. I could never wait for that sketch to end.
badassdigest calls it "Comedy Of The year" I'll probably go see this at a matinee or something... http://www.badassdigest.com/2011/05/13/movie-review-bridesmaids-could-be-the-comedy-of-the-year
Just watched the trailer, is this like a female version of the Hangover? Anyways, Ellie Kemper's in it, so I might give it a try.
co-sign. I'm actually going to watch this movie tonight and I'll keep an open mind hoping that she surprises me, but that Target cashier character she does on SNL is about as unfunny as it get to me.
Trailer was not funny in the least bit. I hope the movie was much much better. Ain't trying to see no saggy t*tties.
Nah bruh. I'd even go Tina Fey over Wiig in that category. Sidebar: There's another former SNL female on a show on ABC called "Happy Endings", which leads me to her co-star on said show. A certain Hockey friendly female by the name of Elisha Cuthbert who may I just say is still looking as beautiful as ever. That girl baaad.
It's going to be one of those "trying too hard" comedies. Would never watch. I can already tell from the trailers that fat cow would be unbearable.
I saw this movie today and I thought it was really funny. The reason it doesn't look good in the trailers is because it's not filled with one-liners. The humor is more situational and character driven. It is not a chick-flick. There is an element of romantic comedy to it, but it's not the central focus. It's not the funniest movie I've ever seen and it's not even my favorite Apatow movie I've ever seen...but it's solid and has some very funny moments. My only criticism is it is a little long (over 2 hours - it does drag a bit in the middle).
It said some mean stuff before I had my first cup of coffee. It also referenced Tron. I thought better of it, remembering my mom's, "if you don't have something nice to say...." advice.
also, i had a picture of susan b. anthony b**** slapping darryl morey in mine. it was a surprising find, but google is magic that way.
