This guy took on the challenge from pitching to hitting and he was on fire for the rest of the year. I hope he can keep this up and make it up to big leagues soon. Here are his final numbers at AA Corpus Christi: .371, 3 HR, 20 RBI and 8-for-9 in stolen bases. He had 124 AB's in 42 games.
Yeah, I recal them saying when he was drafted he was both a highly coveted prospect in pitching and hitting. And he'd of gone in the first 2 rounds in either aspect of the game. But since Pitching is coveted so much more, then the Astros put him to the trials to see if he was the pitching prospect they had hoped for. Unfortunatley he didn't pan out as a pitcher. But he's looking formidable as a hitter.
Played a good bit of CF this year as well, and reports were favorable. His future is most likely in RF though.
Yeah, I remembered that he was decently tall, but for some reason I thought he was thick as well (strong, like Clemens not necessarily fat like David Wells). Good to hear he is doing well.
Well, If he manages to make it as a hitter to the big leagues, the Astros should consider it 100% gravy. Because, as a pitcher he could not cut it. He was drafted to be a pitcher. I'm glad the Astros, had the smarts to get him to try his luck with his bat. Let's not get carried away just yet though. Remember that the pitching improves so much more from AA to AAA and finally to the big leagues!!! Hopefully Brian get to AAA next season, and we'll see from there what his bat is made of? Is he going to be a solid prospect again? For the health of the Astros farm system, let's keep our fingers crossed.
