This is what I'm talking about. We haven't made it for sure, and anything can happen, but it does point out that there was no reason to panic after dropping the first 2 to the Marlins. It seems like no matter how many games are left in what sport some folks want to call the whole season based on a couple of games.

    carlos lee on lidge:

"He has better stuff than [the Yankees' Mariano] Rivera," Lee said. "With Rivera, you can put the ball in play. With this guy ... that's one of the few guys that when I'm looking for a slider, I can't hit it. That's the best pitch in the league."

    gotta like that. :)

Not entirely true. If we win tonight and Florida wins, then both FLA and PHI will be 1 1/2 back.

Exactly ... and that is what I am counting on. Let's hope Backe has a strong outing and the offense supports him.

Thank god Bagwell got that hit so we aren't talking about the unbelievably embarrasing at bat Jason Lane had one batter before Jeff.

did you see lieberthal just now. that little cheater. but freaking brilliant move. play at the plate. the ump to his back, he tags the guy with an empty glove while protecting the ball with his other hand from the collision. Ump never saw anything but the tag. He then put the ball back in his glove and shows the umpire he still has the ball. what a little biotch move. but brilliant.

If anybody was watching the Marlins-Phillies game... did you guys see just how BAD Florida looked (in all aspects of the game) in that 9th inning?

That was exactly what I was talking about.... they can look great on paper, and great in some games... but then everything falls apart when they lose it mentally.

I was just coming here to post about this. Florida with a complete meltdown in the 9th and they're now down 6-2 (after coming into the inning ahead 2-1.) And still nobody out! Wasted a great outing from Willis.

An absolute Fish meltdown.....I'd say they looked like a little league team in the ninth, but that would be a disservice to the LLs. Zero communication and zero execution.....like watching a train wreck.

Does anyone know if the game is going to be televised in the houston area tonight? I have Time Warner Digital Cable and live inside the loop, but when I looked at the on-screen guide earlier today, I couldn't find the game on FSSW or TV51!

I don't get the Chronicle, so I don't know if it's going to be broadcasted in the area? What's the damn deal!?!?!?

How could they do this to us!?!? This is not fair!!!

This post has pretty much been made every year... since the Astros never show saturday home games, and they always seem to be in contention down the stretch.

They outplayed the Philies until the 9th. They took a 2-0 lead into the 9th. Maybe Dontrell Willis should not have pitched the 9th inning in hind sight.

I am hoping/wishing for a Phillies sweep on Sunday. This works out perfectly for us.

In case you aren't following the game it is currently 3-0 Houston in the bottom of the second.

Actually, the Phillies losing at least one game would help us out a little more (in the short run).

If the Phillies sweep, they still have a chance to tie us in the loss column if we lose a game to the Brewers.

But, in the long run, the Marlins are the bigger threat... but the Phillies have had no problems so far in beating Washington, Florida or Atlanta... maybe they'll have more trouble with the Mets.
