I did enjoy after the game on sportscenter one of the hosts was talking to one of the football experts (cannot remember either of them because I was more listening than watching). They showed the block and the host says "What about Favre blocking? Even at the WR position he goes hard". At first I was kinda like wtf?, because he was definitely trying to goad the ex-player into talking about how great Brett is. I almost laughed out loud when the guy replied. "That was a terrible block and dirty to boot. I never did anything like that in my career and Brett should be ashamed of that, he will most definitely be fined". I could not believe it, that guy will probably be fired today though.

See -- the guys calling the game called Favre out. A former QB called Favre out.

He's ESPN's love child, and even ESPN didn't have his back.

    Because it was CHEAP.

    And DIRTY.

How often did he try to block in his career you suppose? Accidents happen on the field. Everything happens in split seconds. Farve doesn't play WR. Most of the blocks he sees are in the pocket where it is a legal play to go low like that. He went too low. It is nowhere near the first time I've seen it, and not even the first time I've seen a QB do it. Accidents/mistakes happen. There are dirty plays every Sunday and by people doing what they get paid to do, but I bet you Yahoo won't be doing a story on the vast majority of them, and there won't be threads on the BBS when most of them happen either.

    I agree.

It was a dangerous and stupid play on Favre's part...but, I dont believe he was being dirty. He just doesnt know how to block, for one...and secondly, when an old QB turns his back and goes low, thats more of a self defense move.

If he can't block safely because of his age then he should go sit on the front porch and let people play the game who aren't afraid to make a good, clean block.

Anybody that's played on any level of tackle football should know that you don't throw your back at somebody's legs to block. I'm sure he wasn't intending on being dirty but it was a b****-move nonetheless. If you're going to try to block as a QB, man-up and do it the right way.

I'll give you guys that. Perhaps he wasn't dirty. The block being what it was though, either Favre was dirty, or after 35 years in the league he's still either stupid or a p***y. Even his peers called him out on it.

Im not defending his block, I just think that given his age and what he was being asked to do in that situation, I can understand is inept attempt at a block.

I do think he was scared to make a clean block...I think he feared the end result of that.

It was a monumentally stoopid play call by the coach

Why run your 'stuff' in preseason?
Why risk your hall of fame geezer in preseason?

    The owner should fine him.

Yeah, I agree. My point was just that it wasnt intentional...I just think he was too scared to make the block the correct way. And, given his age and lack of blocking skills, Im not sure I can fault him too much. It may have been a b**** move, but I also think that you put other 40 yr old QBs in the same position and you'd see similar type blocks.

Blocking is part of football. If he's afraid to play football, why is he playing football? It'd be one thing if he just gimped his assignment. But he DOVE at someone's knees.

    Inexcusable.

I certainly hope not. Maybe see them give a half-hearted effort. Maybe see them not try. But dive at someone's knees? Or worse yet, throw your *back* into someone's knees???

Bush league. There is no defending that. It's chickencrap move. If he's too old for the heat, he should sit at the analyst's desk with all the other geezers.

It's Brett Favre being Brett Favre. In other words, he's using every muscle except the one inside his helmet.

Isn't this the same type of move that Trent Green tried to pull on Travis Johnson, only to get knocked out with Johnson standing over Green's twitching body? I bring it up because I thought THAT move was cheap as well but everyone seemed to be giving Johnson crap at his reaction and what not.

I think if you're a QB and you want to ATTEMPT at a tackle, at least do it the right way and go high and push as hard as you can.

He was a little of both. Stupid for even trying to block, and p***y for not actually blocking high or even facing him when he did it. He looked scared when he realized he was going to be involved in a hit.

Or don't line up at receiver, and for sure don't have the play go his direction, and whatever you do don't put your players in more harms way during the pre-season. You draw this play up with Tavaris Jackson, not Brett Farve.

Cheap block that could have seriously injured Wilson. Favre got the penalty and should be fined for it by the NFL.

That being said, what the heck was Harvin doing running towards Favre's side? Why would you run to the side that your QB is lined up on?

This is not at all a glowing review of Favre's actions. I agree with this: both stupid *and* p***y. I still count it dirty, too, though. He's a vet. He knows.

I have to agree with this, too -- stupid play call. They could've lost their golden child for the season like 8 to 12 games sooner than they're already gonna lose him. :D
