Well Favre is ruled out. http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexan...-gm-doesnt-want-favre-circus-to-come-to-town/
what history? favre hasnt won in 15 years, yates is 22 years old and has never won one. so he's gone 22 years without ever winning one. bend useless numbers till u find a way that supports your stance.
ok, favre has won 1, been to 2, and was a fg away from a 3rd the season before last. any other FA qbs available that have taken their team to a conference championship within the past 2 years? but you're right, no reason to think t.j. yates doesn't have just as good of a shot to do so, even though he had never been active on an nfl roster before today.
I'll ask again, what if Yates goes down? Dear Uncle Bob, please call the gunslinger. He's an a-hole, but we are one more QB accident away from suiting up the team mascot.
Why is Warner even been mentioned?! He has about as good of a chance of coming out of retirement as Schaub does at playing next week. This team is seriously grasping at straws here...but I wouldn't mind seeing them give Garcia a shot.
Pretty suprising comment by Rick Smith. I guess he wanted to end that speculation quickly but seems a little uncalled for....
No it doesn't seem uncalled for considering how things get stupidly hyped up when there is a Favre rumor. Kill the rumor and don't let it bother the team.
Is that the same game where he turned it over 3 times? Is that the same game where he threw an INT with about 40 secs remaining while close to FG range in NO territory with the game tied? Not that any of that matters......since it happened almost 2 years ago. Again, never claimed Yates was going to lead us to an AFC Championship game, much less a Super Bowl win. Quite frankly, the sensible fan probably realizes even with Schaub, that was a long shot. Goal here given the circumstances, IMO, is to hang onto the division (very doable, even with Yates), host a playoff game and give this city something they haven't seen in 20 years.
I'm ready to go all in. We cant win games checking down to the RB since other teams will be double teaming our TE's. Yates doesn't look down field and from what I've seen so far, I'm not impressed. I say we so all in.
They wouldn't be talking about the Texans. They would be talking about Favre. I'd rather ESPN talk about how we are still kicking but and taking names without Favre, without Schaub, without Leinart, without Mario and without AJ/Foster for quite a few games.
color me unsensible then. we have a top defense and a top running game. along with the best wr in football. i want the best qb that they can possibly get for the remainder of the season. i haven't given up all hope like you apparently have, and like you apparenlty do before each season starts, since it wouldn't be sensible to think a team has a chance at winning the supoerbowl with matt schaub as their qb. once again...i am not a favre guy, but to think that t.j. yates gives this team a better chance of winning games is borderline insane.
Yeah I don't think Favre wants to come out of retirement to be a "game manager", which is what we need at this point. We don't have to outscore teams 31-28. Favre doesn't exactly have a history of responding well to having plays dictated to him (i.e. Kubiak's speciality). He does have a history of checking out of running plays, with pretty good running running backs so he can throw it, costing his team games. There is no recent indication that that man, is Bret Favre. And if you are going to throw his 2009 season in there as proof that he is the solution, then you have to include 2008 and 2010 as proof that he is not. And all 3 of those seasons, he was with the team for the whole season, not coming in with 1/4 of the season left. Again, right back at ya.......
Apparently the concept of learning an NFL playbook has been lost or worse not even realized amongst many here. Yes a free agent qb that has not even seen the Texans playbook is definitely the better option over the qb that went through training camp and has been with the team since day 1 this season. I'm not giving TJ Yates a stamp of approval yet either, but we need to see him next week after a full week of practice. The 2nd half was not a good indicator of what Yates can do since Kubiak went into ultra conservative mode to protect the lead and Yates.
I never said it wasn't sensible to think the team has a "chance" to win a Super Bowl with Schaub. I said it was sensible to think it was a long shot (which it would be). If we got to the playoffs, and Schaub was healthy, we probably would not be one of the favorites to win it all given our lack of playoff experience (i.e. a "long shot"). Hope and being sensible are two different things. I hope we win the Super Bowl. I would be proud to make the playoffs, see a home game and get this team some much needed playoff experience under their belts. This season is not our only shot or maybe even our best shot ya know.
