My only thought is he makes a lot of money as a backup. That money should be spent elsewhere. I think they got a backup in the offseason.
The problem with keeping him on the roster as a backup is that it puts even more pressure on Rodgers knowing that Favre is looming over his shoulder. One bad game and everyone will start calling for Favre to start. And of course 12 million for a backup is a bit much. I think its best for the organization to trade him and move on.
Everybody keeps mentioning the $12 million salary. Is he scheduled to make that much this year or over the course of the rest of his contract?
I believe that is his salary cap number for this season. I think a portion of that has already been paid to him in bonuses though. My guess would be between 8-10 million haven't been paid to him yet.
if that is true that's hilarious. why go to a cruddy team like that to have one last hurrah, I know they got into the playoffs last year, but their conference isn't exactly a powerhouse or even close. I guess Favre figures as long as he gets in to the playoffs he can do some Magic.
Well that deal isn't complete....but I wonder if it is against NFL rules for TB to flip him to say the Vikings.
What is with this nebulous "mindset" garbage that McCarthy kept throwing out there in his presser? Sounds like obfuscation to me. Favre gives you the best chance to win, by far, and he wants to play, but all you keep talking about is some mysterious "mindset" holding him back? B.S. Such a misinformation campaign has got to be the work of the one and only Ari Fleischer. If and when Favre finally speaks we'll maybe get some specifics. Is McCarthy starting to remind anyone else of John Weisbrod?
The mindset is that Favre has decided he will not play for the Packers. Actions speak louder than words...Favre walked out of practice.
FAIL Sorry, couldn't resist........................ Hopefully, the constant Brett Favre pimping and whoring news segment can go back to being just known as ESPN. I don't feel any sympathy for him at all - I think the guy is an attention w****/drama queen on the highest level. I also think that he thought he had the Packers by the balls and was going to screw them into getting what he wanted (either the starting job at Green Bay or a release/trade to the Vikings or Bears). He came across to me with the attitude that he felt he was bigger than the game. There's no question he is going to be a first ballot hall of famer, but he is not bigger than the game - no single player is. Obviously, the man burned his bridges in Green Bay before he decided to come back, so playing there really wasn't an option. I'm just glad to see that this thing got resolved and that Favre isn't starting for the Packers, Vikings, or Bears (i.e. he didn't get his way).
