'With Francis, (insert player name) we would have the softest backcourt' y'all act like we had a dominating backcourt to begin with. Refresh my memory, when was the last time Mobley/Francis played dominating ball ON BOTH ENDS OF THE FLOOR? You can't because their D is as suspect as anyone else in the league. And I think the only way for people to stop claiming a backcourt with Francis and another player that isn't soft is if got Kidd or Payton AND THAT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN. basically, don't call a suggested backcourt soft until you realize how soft our backcourt is right now. as for Brent Barry, it'd be nice to have an unselfish player who can shoot and control the ball. but for that to happen we'd have to do some major wheelin and dealin.
Couple of things, first off, Brent Barry is not a defensive siv like some are making him out to be. Barry has improved a lot defensively throughout his career and has very good instincts in that area in terms of when to help, how to play the passing lanes etc. Is the guy a lock down one on one defender? No, but the guy is very effective in terms of team defense with his long arms and understanding of the game. Leeb, the point I was trying to make about Sacramento is that if you took Bibby and Christie off that team and replaced them with Francis and Mobley, the offense would not be anywhere near what it is now. Some posters on this board insinuate that if the Rockets just gave the ball to Yao a lot everything would be fine and no changes would be needed in the backcourt. That simply is not the case. Sacramento's offensive efficiency has as much to do with their savvy guards as it does their savvy big men passers that can play out of the high post. The Kings mix up a lot of pick and rolls where the guards have to make accurate reads with the high post type plays where guys cut backdoor and get easy layups. The Rockets can run a significant portion of the offense through Yao, but they also need savvy guys in the backcourt to make this work. This is the point I have been trying to make all season, Steve's low IQ combined with Moochie and Mobley's low IQ is bad. A player like Brent Barry would alleviate a lot of this, but Barry is not the only option as I pointed out. There are other players who achieve this, whether it be Odom, Tinsley, Snow, Parker, Miller etc, but the Rockets HAVE to address this, the Francis-Mobley-Moochie trio isnt going to cut it. Also, Desert Scar, I fully agree that this team could use a tough PF. I think that should be #2 on the offseason list after getting a player on the perimeter that is a savvy playmaker type.
You said Brent Barry would be disgusted. I merely asked why he would be disgusted. I don't know what he has in common with Scottie Pippen to make you think he would be disgusted. I don't think Posey was disgusted while putting up the best numbers of his career. Nor do I think Horry, Elie, Walt, Bullard, Maxwell, Kenny Smith, J Hawkins, Drexler, etc. were disgusted. Out of all the perimeter players that the Rockets have had since Rudy took over, you name one that was 'disgusted', and assume Brent Barry would be as well. Actually I can give you another, Shandon Anderson. Does Brent Barry have more in common with those two than he does with everyone else? Or you can just say that you were Rudy-bashing without regard to facts and leave it at that.
He wouldn't be disgusted. He has no power. There is only one owner. Anyways......Brent Barry can create. He can fit anywhere. Posey adjusted well. Disgusted.......haha.
Come now freak, even you could not possibly be that dense. I guess since you have no substantive answer at all, so you take issue with my use of the term "disgusted" . Way to score points. Of course, as you well know, my main point was that, since certain players excel at either a) moving without the ball, or b) finding other players moving without the ball (Barry does both, or so I believe, although he does neither as well as Pippen), when you put such a player in an offense that seems to require little of either,a player who can do such things is diminished. Was that so hard to discern? Why is saying that the Rocket's offense sucks "Rudy-bashing without regard to the facts"? Is it not a fact that it sucks? Why do you think everybody, from the hardest of hardcore rocket fans like Clutch, to neutral observers like Bill Walton, to even Rocket haters like the Spurs play by play guy, universally cringes when the Rockets offense goes into it's boring guard Iso's or baseline backdowns? Why does a team with such speed, quickness and athleticism run such pedestrian fast-breaks? Why won't you answer my question: Do you think the best use of Yao Ming's talents is to let him back down on the left low block while everybody stands around? And do you think that having Brent Barry/Jamal Crawford/Gary Payton/Whoever stand around and watch Ming do this is going to win a lot more games?
If we did get Brent Barry.....maybe he could move the ball around more and penetrate and dish and all that tuff! It wouldn't be that great if we continue this sad horrible offense that is ugly and unsuccessful...... But Brent Barry would be a nice team player for us. Veteran and shooter. And Bill Walton!!!!!! OH MY GOD. He said Steve Nash was MVP....haha.
Answer to what? YOU said "If brent barry comes to Houston with the current system, he will be Scottie Pippen 2.0." What should I be 'answering' to? 'Score points'? Is this some kind of contest? Am I supposed to be a mindreader? No, I don't know what your point is. I listed just about every perimeter player we've had since Rudy took over. None of them had a problem adjusting to the 'system'. You're talking about the smallest of minorities here not being able to fit in. A player who 'excels at moving without the ball'...what exactly IS that? Doesn't that just mean you're not good enough to get your own shot? It would've been funny to see you on this board during Pippen's run here. You would've made like the 2nd or 3rd person (me being one of them, ironically) who actually defended the guy. Most everyone else couldn't understand how a guy like Drexler had NO problem adjusting to the 'system', while Pippen chose to complain instead. "An offense that seems to require little of either"? Yeah, I'm sure Rudy tells each one of the guys "Okay, whatever you do, DON'T move without the ball, and if you see someone doing it, DON'T pass it to him". Come on now Sam, even YOU could not possibly be that dense. I don't know, that's not what you said. And if it's a fact, prove it. Did you just list Bill Walton as a reference? I don't know, do these same people cringe when Kobe Bryant iso's, or Shaq does a boring baseline backdown? I guess it depends on the players, huh? I don't know, why don't you ask Steve Francis. I'll answer the first question if you tell me who is designing an offense that requires players to 'stand around'. Or if you tell me how Yao Ming was able to find guys open for layups if they were supposedly 'standing around'. No, I don't think having either of those guys are going to win a lot more games for us.
I agree! I love TALL POINT GUARDS! It would be a great off-set to our short shooting guards (Francis/Mobley).
Don't take anything that Walton says seriously. He changes sides like he changes underwear. "That's the greatest play I've ever saw..." Two days later... "That's the greatest play I've ever saw..."
Rogerto Thato!!!!! But...we'd have to give up Mobley for him. Or what? How could we get him before next season starts? I WANT HIM!
Brent Barry Lite = Bobby Sura. His contract is too high and he is very available. If we could dump out of Mooch for him, then make the nickets and dimes work for the cap. Sura would be a nice third guard. However, don't be shocked to find David Wesley as your third guard next season (no, CD, he's too old!!!)
Deuce Quote: David Wesley? What leads you to believe he will be our third guard? Is he a FA this off season? Sura is a healthy body short of a BBarry-like season, IMO. Wesley? It is just a 'studied feeling' I have that NO will gladly send him packing and that CD loves the guy. I didn't say he would be here, I said it wouldn't shock me if he is.
While Mobley and Francis are soft—Francis and someone else could be softer. Defensively IMO Francis and Mobley > Barry and Francis. IMO of the three players Mobley is the best one to throw at quicker bigger 2s like Kobe, Finley, etc (when I have watched Barry though he is not a terrible defender he does get killed by guys with a half way decent first step). That said, a backcourt with either A. Williams or Snow (let alone Kidd or Payton) + Francis would not be soft and better than Francis-Mobley, because regardless of the best opponents guard’s position (Kobe, Marbury, Bibby, Parker ) you can sick Francis’s backcourt compadre on him. Again I am not totally against the Brent Barry idea. Just unlike MM…. ….I think a force at the 4 so we can create a wicked rangy zone and not have to double down low much is a must to get away with a back court like Barry/Francis. Thus the move for a 4 has to be first, than a break-up up the guards for offensive leadership. Otherwise (not solidifying the 4 spot) we are much better off with a tougher quicker 1 (Snow, Williams, Payton, maybe Crawford—with Williams or Crawford more likely) who can pretty much always take on the opponents’ best guard so that we don’t have a couple glaring defensive weaknesses.
What about Michael Dickerson? The Grizz just sank a lot of their future to get MMiller, and with him, Battier, and Dickerson, someone's got to be unhappy. He's a terrific slasher and defender, has a reasonable contract, and is a very good spot-up shooter. I always wondered if we should have kept him instead of Mobley anyway.
MOBLEY for B. BARRY..................straight up swap. This would be the best thing to happen to rockets. WE NEED A SHOOTER!!! Here's why: 1) When YAO gets doubled, we need a spot up shooter to take advantage. MOBLEY is not a shooter, he's a slasher. We have too many slashers and uncle RICE is getting tooo old. 2) Another good thing is the fact that if FRANCIS wants to play the 2, then BARRY can play point. 3) BARRY has an excellent history of work ethics. He plays with his heart (just like JUAQUIN). 4) Sonics would benifit with MOBLEY. Sonics, on the other hand, have too many shooters. They need a guy to take it to the basket(I consider RAY more of a shooter).
Bill Walton wears Depends, not underwear. He doesn't need to change anything except his mind. I do like the B. Barry idea though regardless of how we get him. Give 'em Rice and Norris and call it even.
